Garlic Roasted Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
A keeper! I liked it better the second time I made it, though my family loved it the first time. Second time I cut 2 large potatoes into roughly quarter inch slices, added thinly sliced Vidalia onion and small chunks of carrot, and peeled the garlic at the beginning. I smooshed the garlic pieces after taking it out of the oven the final time, then sort of stirred it all in the casserole dish, and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. I'm generally not a sweet-with-meat fan but this was delicious.

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2011
I have to agree with those who said this dish is about heat rather than flavor. Following the cooking instructions resulted in a well cooked roast...it pulled apart really well, etc. but there was really no depth of flavor. I had to put the meat into a skillet with some of the liquid and add a bunch of taco seasoning.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
HOLY COW!!!!! These are carbohydrate crack! They are delicious!!!!!! I took the advice of others and just added the flour as needed...ended up using a little over four cups. I made pretzel nuggest rather than fussing with the pretzel shape. They came out beautifully at 400 for 6 minutes. Wow, thanks for sharing...I will make these a lot!!!!!

Heavenly Potatoes and Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
This wasn't a wow, but it wasn't bad either. It was very easy to assemble...I actually just sort of eyeballed the amounts without measuring, and it was a good way to use up leftover ham. It was just a very heavy dinner.

Wisconsin Slow Cooker Brats

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2007
I picked this recipe because it looked easy and I had everything. I started to worry while it cooked because the hot cooking beer smell isnt exactly appetizing to me...but the end result is super! Used one bottle of Mexican beer (all I had) and a yellow onion...grilled for color for about five minutes afterwards. Next time I'm trying the suggested Guinness and red onion...bet its great!

Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
Wow, great recipe! I made this twice...the first time I stuck to the recipe as it was submitted but found it WAY too spicy and liquidy so I threw that out and tried again. This time I used 2 T of chili powder and reduced the water to a little over three quarters of a cup for a thicker sauce. It was perfect! I will be using this recipe many times! Thanks!

Caramel Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2006
This recipe was so easy and successful! The suggestion from another reviewer to use the pyrex measuring cup was great...made it easy to cover the whole apple. We used mini chocolate chips and mini marshmellows.

Cinnamon Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2006
A very easy recipe, and a nice not-overly-sweet bread - although I did use roughly 1/2c of sugar instead of the suggested 1 c., and replaced the oil with apple sauce. This will get made a lot here.

Grandma's Gingersnaps

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2006
I've never really liked gingersnaps but these are delicious! I swear I ate about half of the cookies on each cookie sheet as they came out of the oven. I will certainly be making them during the winter holidays and might even take the suggestion of KJD79 to add cardamom. Thanks for sharing!

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2006
Simple and tasty! I let the dough sit for about half an hour, rather than the recommended whole hour and also cut back on the salt as recommended by others. These were really easy to make and went quickly! I served them with Homemade Guacamole, also from this site.

Delicious! I used red onion and added some cilantro as recommended by a previous reviewer. We ate it with Authentic Mexican Tortillas, also from this website. Fantastic!

Buzzsaw's BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2006
I used this to make "pulled" chicken sandwiches with leftover roasted chicken. I just pulled the meat off the bones while the sauce cooked and then added the sauce to the chicken to get the mixture I wanted. Served on kaiser rolls with homemade french fries, salad, and corn on the cob. It was a hit with everyone and made welcome leftovers for lunch the next day. Thanks for the recipe!

Tangy Turkey and Swiss Sandwiches

Reviewed: May 28, 2006
This received mixed reviews from my family...I really liked it so I gave it a 4 rather than a 3. I used chicken instead of turkey because I had it on hand and thick multigrain bread. And although I thought it was very tasty, my young kids just picked out the chicken (and they are generally pretty adventurous about food) and my husband wasn't thrilled with it (but he's a meat and potatoes type so his opinion doesn't really count). I wonder if I had put the spread on just one side of the sandwich if the taste would have been more mild and therefore better received. I will make it again for myself. Thanks!

Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwiches

Corn Casserole I

Reviewed: May 26, 2006
I was looking for something besides rice or potatoes to serve as a side dish, and this fit the bill. I wasn't really wow-ed by it but it was a nice change and my five year olds loved it. They even had it for breakfast the next day. I followed all directions but cut back a bit on the butter. Like I said, a nice change from the usual but not really memorable.

Kabob Marinade

Reviewed: May 24, 2006
Fantastic! Had everything in the cupboard - a plus! I used it on chicken kabobs and only marinated the pieces for 2 hours. Also marinated the peppers and onions. It's a great marinade that I will pass on to many!

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: May 24, 2006
Delicous...and simple! I won't bother with American cheese grilled cheese sandwiches again! I softened the butter in the microwave but didn't let it melt completely because then it's not really spreadable. I mixed the garlic salt and some Italian seasonings with the softened butter before putting it on the bread. Used some sliced multigrain bread and grated mozarella cheese and "cooked" them up in a nonstick skillet instead of the broiler...easier to control burning that way. I used the suggested marinara for dipping but probably won't bother with it again.

Finnish Kropser (Baked Pancakes)

Reviewed: May 21, 2006
I accidently made this the first time in a 9x9 pan and it was burnt on the edges and raw in the middle. The second time I noticed the 9x13 indicated in the recipe and the results were great...delicous and a nice change from regular pancakes. I added some vanilla to the batter and baked at 400 for almost 40 minutes to avoid burning, as recommended by others. Served with choices of syrup, mixed fruit, or powdered sugar...all of which were great accompaniments.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: May 15, 2006
I took the advice of others and doubled the recipe - and I'm very glad I did because veryone really liked these. I might play with the spices, substitute some oil with applesauce, and include some whole wheat flour to make them healthier...but the original recipe is very tasty.

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2006
I made the changes recommended by others...cut way on the salt, kept an eye on them while cooking to avoid drying them out. I think it's a good basic pork chop recipe...but you definitely need to reduce the salt in the recipe.
