Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
I don't eat the brownies (I don't eat chocolate), but I make them for my family. I almost followed the recipe exactly, but I added a couple of ingredients. My husband adored these brownies - he even told me they were better than his mom's, but I actually added milk and semi-sweet chocolate morsels and that gave them the chocolaty flavor that they needed. I also tripled the recipe and baked them in a 9x13 pan for about 40 minutes. Everyone who tasted them loved them.

Peach Pie the Old Fashioned Two Crust Way

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2010
I love this pie, but my crust was still a little soggy the day after and I did drain the peaches and brush with the egg. I also would have preferred it be a little sweet, but overall it was very good.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
This recipe was really good. My entire family enjoyed it and so did I. I will make this recipe again and again. I can imagine that this would also be good using half bbq sauce for those that think it may be to sweet.

Broiled and Slow-Roasted Butterflied Leg of Lamb With Cumin and Garlic

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
I didn't cook this recipe, another person did at the food bank that I work in; for our soup kitchen on Friday. I have eaten leg of lamb, lamb chops, and lamb all of my life at excellent 5 star restaurants and this recipe was delicious. She prepared 4 legs and served over 40 people lunch (which included homemade rice pilaf and a carrot, parsnip, onion vegetable dish with a Dijon butter sauce as accompaniments) and there were only 2 people who didn't like it and they don't like lamb to begin with, there were no leftovers and some of our volunteers didn't eat because we wanted to make sure that all the people who came in could eat.... This recipe is so great that I ran out and bought 2 boneless lamb legs and they are dinner for Sunday night. I do admit that I made a huge mistake and forgot the garlic in the paste-rub. I adore garlic and even have minced garlic in the fridge, I just got so excited that I did everything but that....anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. 140 degrees will get you a nicely rare leg, don't go to much higher because at 150 it's over done and can taste like leather.... By the way, I like my lamb with a touch of mint jelly, if you can find it, but this is so good that you don't even have to have it. Thank you for an amazing recipe.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
These brownies are GREAT! The first time I made them, I made them exactly as the recipe asked; they were great, but all butter makes them a little hard if you don't eat them while hot. Today, I made them again and used half butter and half oil. While they are still dense and rich, they keep better when they are cooled. I also heard that using half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate is a great variation. Thanks Brooke, this is great!

Hot Cocoa Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
This was an okay place to start, however I wound up doubling the cocoa and almost doubling the sugar for it to be as sweet as we like. With those changes, it turned out okay.

Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
Wow!!!!!! I was a little hesitant and skeptical about this recipe because something about chicken broth and lamb didn't sound like it would be all that great. However, I was completely wrong and very glad that I was. This was one of the best ways that I've ever had or made lamb chops. The sauce is excellent and compliments the lamb rather than over powering it. Thank you for a great recipe.

Sweet and Sour Chicken I

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2009
I've always wondered how this was made and this recipe was the exact thing I was looking for. I wouldn't change anything, but if you want to add something, season the chicken.

Shrimp Fried Rice II

This recipe was good, but it seems that the soy sauce made it a little mushy, next time I'll try brown rice.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2009
This recipe was perfect as is. I don't know why some of the reviews say that things need to be changed. I personally have a sweet tooth, so I added 2 more tablespoons of sugar, but it was EXCELLENT AS IS!

Lemon Garlic Tilapia

The flavor was good, but I followed the recipe exactly and it was over cooked at 30 minutes. Next time, I'll follow the review recommendations and go for 10-15 minutes, but still a good recipe!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
These are the best muffins I've tasted. I was looking for a banana bread recipe and then saw these and thought that these would be better for the kids to handle. I doubled the recipe and used an extra egg to ensure that they would stay moist and OH MY GOODNESS, they were great. My husband even commented on how great they are. I made 12 at a time, so with the first batch I tried to bake them and then add the topping 5 minutes before they were done, but when I made the second batch I just topped them when I put them in and we definitely preferred adding the topping when the muffins are first going in the oven. This recipe deserves 10 stars......thanks!

Coquito

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
I don't drink, so I made this drink, omitted the alcohol and I loved it. For my husband who is a social drinker, I added 1-2 tsp. of vanilla rum to his glass and man, he drank the rest of the pitcher....lol. After this, I made another batch and he took it to a few of our neighbors to sample it and came back empty handed!!!! This is now our holiday drink of choice and will be for years to come. Thanks so much!

I love this recipe, the only thing I did differently was add a little milk. Without the milk it was a little too thick, but this is an amazing recipe. Thanks

Cream Cheese Pound Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
This recipe is amazing. I am used to a traditional pound cake which is sweet and dense......hence the name "pound cake." I've made this recipe numerous times, however I've made cakes in the past that called for almond and vanilla extracts and I've never liked that combination, so I used lemon and vanilla or just vanilla instead. I don't think this recipe is to sweet with the 3 cups of sugar as a matter of fact I've even made it with 3 & 1/2 cups of sugar and my family (including the diabetics) loved it....I give this recipe 5+ stars and for a variation; you can substitute sour cream for the cream cheese and it's still awesome.
