Mom of 2 boys, married 19 years, love to cook and have a huge collection of recipes! Will try new recipes and love sharing recipes with friends! I love to cook for a crowd and really enjoy when people enjoy my cooking.
My favorite things to cook
casseroles, desserts, and i have recently started trying to "master the art of french cooking" a la Julie and Julia...I love to try new things. We love tex-mex and homestyle cooking at our house but
My favorite family cooking traditions
my mother and grandmother taught me to cook from a young age...we still use my grandmother's recipes for all of our holiday dinners. My youngest son (age 8) loves to mix it up in the kitchen with me and that is a blast! He recently made an entire dessert (limeade pie) for our family dinner and was a great success.
My cooking triumphs
being able to finally master the spaghetti carbonara my dh's grandmother made. She learned from an Italian family during WWII when they were stationed overseas how to make Pasta Carbonara and it was her legacy. It only took me 18 years to be able to get the consistency right. Grandma T long ago passed on but I know she would be proud and would say I finally got it right...she told me when I was a young bride that it would take some time for me to get it right but one day I would know it by heart. She was right. I don't know how it happened but practice makes perfect and now it's second nature. Keeping family traditions alive for both sides of our family is important to me!
My cooking tragedies
One time I made my husbands entire 3 layer italian cream birthday cake without any sugar in the cake! I only realized it AFTER I had all 3 layers baked and cooled and ready to frost! There was nothing else to do except scrap it and start all over. I learned it was important to have a fully stocked pantry and to double check the recipe before I put it in the oven!
