Passion Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
Not bad, but not my favorite recipe. My family turned their noses up, but I ate on them for a few days for something sweet to eat. I cooked them for 25 minutes, and they were overcooked. Since this is not a recipe you can really tell when they're ready, I had to depend on the directions, and at 25 minutes it looked like they were getting browner than I like. Anyway, it was worth a try.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
The first time I made this, I dredged--well, bathed--the chicken pieces in flour, and the sauce was a gooey, stickey mess. Very unattractive too. The flavor, however, was great. I gave it another try, only this time, I sprinkled a little flour over the chicken while it was cooking. It came out perfect. Will definitely make again.

Southern Baked Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
Really, really good. It didn't get five stars because the texture was odd. A little thicker than I wanted, and pasty looking. The flavor was awesome. though. I will definitely make again, only next time use flour instead of bread crumbs in it. Also, for the topping, I mixed the bread crumbs with melted butter, and it required way more crumbs than 1/4 cup to make it crispy and crumbly.

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2011
Really really good! I've been anticipating this since summer, and it didn't disappoint. I don't like super spicy, so I left out the jalapenos. I did have to thicken with a little cornstarch, but it was excellent overall.

Chili con Queso with Chicken (Similar to Carlos O'Kelly's)

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
Good queso, but it may as well have been the basic Rotel variety. Processed cheese is processed cheese, no matter how you dip it.

Teriyaki Rib Eye Steaks

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
The flavor was fabulous. The only thing I'll do differently next time is to double or triple the recipe, cook the leftover marinade in the oven while the steak is on the grill, and serve the steak in the juice. Do that, and you've got restaurant quality flavor.

Chicken Milano

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2011
This was a good change of pace for Italian night. The only thing I changed was that I used chopped Roma tomatoes instead of sundried. Taste preference. I also made zucchini fritters with fresh basil from this site. Will make again.

Melinda's Porcupine Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2011
Really good, and a big hit with my family. We ended up eating them with spaghetti, and my husband even commented it was better than the jar sauce he usually likes. Definitely a keeper.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2011
As is, this recipe gets a generous three stars. Waaaaay too much sugar. I wish I'd read reviews before making this for a huge fish fry, now I don't even want to serve it. Definitely would be good with maybe a tablespoon or two of sugar.

Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
Excellent flavor, but a lot of trouble. Made exactly as written, so I can't offer any suggestions. This will be made again come Thanksgiving.

Mandarin Orange Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
Okay, so my stomach kinda turned as I was pouring in a whole cup of oil, but it really made it moist. I added about a cup or so of orange juice too, but the crushed pineapple and whipped cream overpower the orange flavor. Nonetheless, the cake was really good. This one's a keeper.

Booger Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
Had to amend from my original 3 stars. My son took these to school in his lunch one day, and the boy sitting next to him asked that I make them again so he could have more. Good reviews from the kids, I just wasn't big on the powdered sugar frosting. May use frosting in a tube next time or none at all.

Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
I'll be the first to tell you, I don't like fruit in my meat. I decided to try this though, due to the good reviews. It was just weird eating grapes in my chicken salad. That being said, it was really really good. I like the fact that you have to bite a grape to get the sweet taste as opposed to sweet in every bite. My husband couldn't get used to the grapes, so I had to eat every bite. Not a problem.

Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2011
I used half the ricotta, and it was still waaay too overpowering with Ricotta. Definitely won't be making that again. It needed salt too.

Bacon Roll Ups II

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
I loved the various textures of these. Crispy bread, creamy cheese, and bacon. I experimented a bit, and tried some with plain cream cheese, some with cheddar and cream cheese, some with garlic, and some sprinkled with brown sugar. Every single one of them was great. I did up the oven temp to 425 to cook the bacon faster without burning the bread.

Chicken Enchilada Dip

Loved this dip! It was even better on the second day. Definitely a change from the usual cheese dip. I made it exactly as written, and will do it that way from now on.

Soul Smothered Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
Followed the recipe to a tee, except used creole seasoning instead of cayenne. I had way too much chicken, so ended up cooking it in a roasting pan for like 3 hours. It turned out goooood! The chicken was falling off the bone tender. Served it with rice, and it was a huge hit. Good leftover too. Will definitely make again.

Old-Fashioned Italian Zucchini Fritters

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
Very different, and quite good. I followed other reviewers who said use fresh basil and not dried, but they actually could have gone without any basil at all. I guess I'm just not a big basil fan. The only thing I did differently was add onion powder. I'll make these again. Maybe next time the kids will try them.

Ranch Chicken Tacos

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2011
Really good. I found myself adding extra sauce to my tacos because the chicken was kind of dry. Otherwise, it was a nice change of pace. Can't wait to make taco salad from the leftovers.

Pizza Pinwheels

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
I really hate that I wasted ingredients on this. It sounded like it had real potential. I fixed these for myself and three boys. None of us ate them. The dough browned, but was mushy and collapsed when cool. I'm a good cook, I know how to make things work. These just didn't (two stars for decent flavor though).
