Grandma's Eggless, Butterless, Milkless Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
Being a poor college student with limited resources, I decided to try this recipe. Driven by compulsion, I ate half of it.

Portuguese Sweet Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
A very tasty and excellent textured rice pudding. It was almost perfect, except my rice didn't cook all the way through.

Apple Raisin Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
I took this bread into work and it disappeared by the end of the day. Everyone loved it. Whats great about the bread is that it is loaded with so much good stuff that it gives you a real nutritional kick. Also I only had to bake it for 45 minutes.

Egg-Yolk Sponge Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
I baked this in a 9 by 13 inch pan, and the texture of the resulting cake was incredible. I didn't even add any orange flavoring. An excellent way to use up extra egg yolks.

Nutty Granola II

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
I had some trouble evenly toasting the granola, but the result was very tasty. We ate all of it plain, but it could make a great ice cream, muffin, or pie topping.

Easy Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
I used this recipe because I didn't have any butter or shortening, and I was amazed at the crust I got. It has a crisp crumbly texture. I have used it for custard pies as well as beef pot pies.

Karjalan Pies

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2005
Of course the Finns will probably flip when they read this, but I didn't have any rye flour, so I used regular flour and added a tsp. of italian seasoning, tsp of chives, and a tsp of rosemary. The pies turned out wonderfully and tasted great. I will definately try this again and see what it tastes like with rye flour.

Coconut Custard Pie III

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
I followed the other reviews' suggestion of using 1 1/2 cups milk. Unfortunatly, this recipe didn't work for me. The coconut and cinnamon rose to the top and I had an egg layer on the bottom. I also got a very soggy crust. Although I think this resulted from putting the pie in the fridge before it completely cooled(Water condensed in the hot pie).

Piernik - Honey Bread

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
This recipe doesn't work as it is written. Althought the bread doesn't need a yeast packet, it does need 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. Also, although I let the bread dough rest for an hour, I don't think that that is necessary(after all there is no yeast). I also think that the baking pans should not only be greased but also floured. With these changes the resulting bread is quite delicious. A true polish delite.

Pork and Bean Bread

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
This recipe is excellent. I cut all the ingredients in half and baked only 1 9x5x3 pan, and found that the bake time is then reduced to 45 minutes.

Baked Rice Pudding

Reviewed: May 21, 2005
Has a more egg taste, and is less creamy than I am used to. Nonetheless, the pudding is still sweet and irresistable. I am definately going to make this one again.
