I love to cook and have been boiling and toiling since the tender age of six. Having raised a son as a single-parent, while simultaneously putting myself through college, I had to come up with a collection of easy, fool-proof, freezable recipes. I've been creating and collecting delicious recipes for over 30 years now and, with the help of this great website, I continue to add to my skills and recipe box.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook large, but I've lately begun to experiment with different cooking mediums. I recently purchased an electric smoker and an indoor grill and I'm LOVING the versatility they offer. From smoked beef jerky to turkey legs that melt off the bone, as well as healthy grilled veggies, I'm in cuisine heaven!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I've always cooked a huge spread for Thanksgiving, even when it was only for my son and me. I say every year that I'm not going to do it again (because I'm always exhausted, afterwards) but I always look forward to it. This past holiday season, I experimented with several new recipes that I found on this site and took in an entire "munchie spread" for my co-workers. They continue to praise me to this day and it will now be an annual tradition for me, as I LOVE to share the results of my cooking with others.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made strawberry rhubarb jam it was perfect. I picked the berries at a "pick your own" farm and actually grew the rhubarb in my backyard. I was so proud of myself! I also love to see that look of enjoyment and satisfaction on the faces of my friends when they bite into something I've cooked...especially when they beg for the recipe!
My cooking tragedies
I once made a meatloaf with ground turkey and the finished product was disgusting! It was bland and dry. I've yet to find a good turkey meatloaf recipe, though I love cooking other recipes with ground turkey. There's something very soothing about that tryptophan!
