About this Cook
When I was employed, cooking was all about coming home from work and getting a meal on the table as fast as possible. As I am essentially a morning person, this was a challenge for me. Now every day is a culinary adventure I love.
My favorite things to cook
Almost every recipe sent to me daily by allrecipes.com, but especially anything submitted by Chef John whom we have been following for years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ya'll know we southern gals cook with bacon grease, aka drippings. My mom used canned goods almost exclusively and she was a farm girl. She also liked to stockpile canned goods, a habit formed by the 30's Great Depression, I think. I rarely use canned anything.
My cooking triumphs
As of today, I've never made a souffle, but one of my goals is to try. I do make bread people love, but, personally, I do not normally eat bread with a meal. Weird, huh?
My cooking tragedies
Making a meal my husband doesn't like. PTL it doesn't happen often, but I am always trying new recipes. Some really read well, but don't taste as good as anticipated. I don't cry over this, however, because it's probably the recipe and not me.

Buttermilk Scones
I found this wonderful recipe while using the 'search" function to find buttermilk recipes. I needed to use up what remained from making Chef John's Creme Fraiche. We loved this recipe adding 1/2 cup sugar, lemon zest and 1 cup dried cranberries. When they were out of the oven, I brushed the tops with melted butter and sprinkled with sugar. I used my large cookie scoop to drop them on stoneware, which yielded 25 biscuit-size. I want to try the savory route with blue cheese and rosemary. Thank you BevChris for this easy basic recipe.

Chef John's BLT Pasta
Husband and I really enjoyed this recipe. Arugula isn't a favorite of mine so I substituted kale which had been cooked for a short time in chicken broth to "tenderize" it and make it less bitter. It worked well, the dark green very colorful with the tomatoes. Cut the recipe in half and there were no leftovers (husband dislikes eating leftovers)
