About this Cook
When I was employed, cooking was all about coming home from work and getting a meal on the table as fast as possible. As I am essentially a morning person, this was a challenge for me. Now every day is a culinary adventure I love.
My favorite things to cook
Almost every recipe sent to me daily by allrecipes.com, but especially anything submitted by Chef John whom we have been following for years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ya'll know we southern gals cook with bacon grease, aka drippings. My mom used canned goods almost exclusively and she was a farm girl. She also liked to stockpile canned goods, a habit formed by the 30's Great Depression, I think. I rarely use canned anything.
My cooking triumphs
As of today, I've never made a souffle, but one of my goals is to try. I do make bread people love, but, personally, I do not normally eat bread with a meal. Weird, huh?
My cooking tragedies
Making a meal my husband doesn't like. PTL it doesn't happen often, but I am always trying new recipes. Some really read well, but don't taste as good as anticipated. I don't cry over this, however, because it's probably the recipe and not me.

Pork and Pepper Stir Fry
Hubby wasn't too thrilled when I showed him this recipe at his "what's for supper?" Boy, did he change his tune to "You can make this any time!" Only two alterations: I wanted it a little sweeter so I added about 2 tablespoons of sweetened chili sauce (for Spring Rolls) and didn't add the mint because I only had dried. Served it with fried rice made with sprouts I grew this week especially for this purpose. Hubby was sorry I halved the recipe (he won't eat leftovers). Great tasting dish and so pretty too.

Chef John's Sunday Pasta Sauce
The sauce is so good and so easy to make. The most difficult step was opening 4 cans with a manual can opener! Thank you, Chef John, for another awesome "procedure/recipe." I did purchase two beef shanks but raided my freezer for some chicken, a skinny pork blade chop, Italian sausage as well as tossing in several slices of leftover pork tenderloin. After retrieving the meat from the sauce, I chopped it in the food processor before returning it to the sauce.

Easy Egg Drop Soup
This recipe served dual purpose for us. Egg Drop is my husband's favorite Chinese soup so I tried this one for him and he loved it saying it was better than any restaurant's Egg Drop. By adding a squirt each of hot chili sauce and vinegar I was able to approximate the flavor of my favorite, Hot 'n Sour. Thank you, Ava, for sharing this good basic recipe.
