About this Cook
I am a work-at-home mom of six - one boy and five girls. I like to try new recipes, some old-fashioned and some gourmet, although I sometimes have to convince my meat-and-potatoes hubby to try new things.
My favorite things to cook
I like to create fresh dishes with produce from our bountiful summer garden. I try to find new ways to use our homegrown beef as well as elk harvested by my husband. Always desserts and fun treats for the kids.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make a big breakfast with the kids on Sunday mornings. The oldest, 8 and 9, are starting to learn to cook the pancakes and eggs. Thanksgiving with the big extended family is awesome. Cooking for 60+! New Years Eve dinner is my favorite, creating new appies and beautiful trays of goodies.
My cooking triumphs
I tried to perfect my cheesecake recipe by trying a variety of methods and measurements. It's pretty fabulous, but I'm never one to say it can't get better. White chocolate raspberry is the favorite, but we also like coconut macadamia and cappuccino cheesecakes.
My cooking tragedies
Well, I'm a klutz, so most of my tragedies involve dropping something in some way. Tripping down the stairs with a huge jello salad at a family barbecue was a good one - I was about 12 and will never live it down. I also enjoyed letting a huge pizza slip out of my hands and down the side of the oven. I'm sure there will be more to come.

Restaurant-Style Zuppa Toscana
This turned out really good and was actually a very fast and easy meal. Even using turkey Italian sausage and half and half instead of heavy cream, it was still plenty rich. I used fresh spinach from our garden instead of kale and it was fine as long as it is shredded well.

Chocolate Chip Cookies VI
These were well-received by my husband and the rest of his police crew. I used half brown sugar and half white, plus half butter and half Crisco. I would cut the flour down a little since they were a touch dry. Definitely a cakey-cookie, like the consistency of a pumpkin cookie. Also, grated the zucchini instead of chopped. Thanks for the recipe.

Yellow Squash Casserole
This was very good. I didn't have crackers so I used dry bread crumbs mixed with the cheese. Next time I'll try one egg instead of two to cut down on the egginess.
