Quince Jelly

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2013
I gave only 4 stars because I made a few adjustments. I took others advice and omitted the pectin. My jelly set up nicely without it. Also, I added more water than called for, more like 8 cups and mashed the fruit as they cooked. I then strained the fruit and water mush through cheesecloth and a sieve. After those steps, I followed the recipe to the letter. It looks and tastes lovely!

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
This was pretty good. I agree with some of the other reviews that the flavour was a little lacking. It was much tastier after I added warm maple syrup over the top. We had turkey bacon the side and it was very yummy. I added pumpkin pie spice to the milk and egg mixture as well. I think one person's suggestion of putting crispy, crumbled bacon on the top would be spectacular!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2011
I was a little nervous putting this in the oven, as the batter seemed really runny, but it turned out spectacular. The whole loaf was eaten before it had cooled completely! I guess my family liked it! The only change I made was I used fat free greek yogurt instead of sour cream - I just didn't have any. It was a great addition! I will use this recipe again!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2011
Pretty darn good! I didn't give it five stars, because I only added 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup brown and 1/2 cup white. I added extra cinnamon and a 1/2 tsp cloves, since I like a spicier oatmeal cookie. I also took others' advice and didn't chill them for an hour, just dropped by tablespoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets. None the less, this is a great basic cookie recipe - nice and soft and tasty!

Turkey Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I could only give it three stars, since I had to do some tweaking - but it's only to my family's taste. We prefer our sloppy joes a little bit sweeter, so I added 2 tablesppons of brown sugar and 1/8 tsp of ground cloves. The recipe didn't specify, but I used apple cider vinegar, as it too has a bit of a sweeter flavour. A good basic recipe, though!

Awesome Banana Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
I can't give full stars, since I did some tweaking, but this is a good base. I increased the flour by 1/2 a cup, I used whole wheat flour and added vanilla and 1 tbsp of brown sugar to the batter, as well as a pinch of nutmeg. The result was pretty spectacular. My family asks for these every Sunday.

Sky High Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
There are great. I did like some of the other reviews mention and added some salt to the egg and milk mixture. I have always used the Clubhouse mixes, but these were great. And really impressive looking. I placed my batter in a pyrex picture for easier transfer from mixing bowl to hot oil. This saved me time and mess. Thanks for this great recipe!

Meg's Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2008
Although I'd like to, I couldn't give this recipe the full 5 star rating, since I took the advice from some of the other reviews. Here are the small tweaks I made: - 1 full cup more rolled oats - an extra teaspoon of vanilla - half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat - half dark brown sugar and half golden - baked them for only 15 minutes They turned out awesome, soft and chewy and lots of chocolate! This recipe is a keeper!

Spicy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2007
At first glance when these came out of the oven, I was concerned that these would be dry and hard. They turned out to be moist in the middle and slightly crisp on the outside. Not the best looking cookie, but very tasty. I'll be adding these to our regular cookie jar repetoire.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2007
This recipe was really tasty! I tweaked with it a little, as I didn't have green pepper, just red, and I added some extra heat with red pepper flakes, but in general, this was delicious!

Carrot Cake XI

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2006
This wasn't as spicy or as dense as I'd hoped, but it was still good, and a cinch to make. I substituted half the oil for applesauce. I just might try another recipe next time, but I will keep this in the recipe box.

Easy Chicken Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2006
This was just ok. The rice was mushy and it needed something with a different texture, maybe broccoli. The flavour was alright, as I added some crushed red pepper flakes and hot sauce to the soup mixture. I also used mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken. It wasn't dry, just kind of a mushy mouth feel. I'll try something else next time

Easy Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2006
This is a great sauce. I found it to be missing a bit of richness, so I added one cup of chicken stock and let it reduce down, I also added some fresh basil right before serving. I served the sauce over spaghetti with homemade meatballs. The result was fantastic!

Flank Steak Marinated with Honey and Soy Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2005
So good! I too used regular canola oil instead of Enova, but it turned out wonderful all the same. I marinated my flank overnight to maximize tenderness and flavour...what a treat! There were no leftovers!

Oven Fries

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2005
These are great! It took my fries a bit longer than 30 minutes to crisp up, but the flavour was excellent! I've been looking for a good oven fries recipe for quite some time, and this is it! We had them with turkey burgers! No guilt at all on our burger-and-fries night! Just re-made this recipe tonight...I ran out of cayenne, so I mixed some thai chili sauce into the oil and sugar. So spicy and delicious! I just wanted to add to my previous review

Spicy Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2005
Tasty little guys! I thought I would try this recipe as is, but I think that little extra spice and sugar the others mentioned would have made an already great cookie even better.

Normal Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2005
I made this dish on the stovetop, rather than in the oven. I just browned the chicken, then added the sauce and covered it. It cooked on medium for 35 minutes. It was really good! The sauce was great on rice, as well.

Fabulous recipe! Simple and tasty. I add as many tomatoes as I'd like, and I vary the lime juice and garlic depending on my mood! So tasty!

Chicken In a Tarragon Sauce

Reviewed: May 3, 2005
This is a delicious recipe! The recipe calls for a DRY white wine, Sauternes is a very sweet wine, it would not be the optimal wine for this sauce. I used a Sauvignon Blanc, but any DRY white wine would do well. Yum!

Uncle Bill's Sweet and Sour Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2005
This was an easy and tasty sauce. If MSG bothers you, (as it does me) leave it out! The sauce is just as good. I also left out the food colouring. The teensiest bit out onion powder is great too. Great, easy, and tasty sauce!
