About this Cook
I'm 65 and have had to keep kids and husband in food for years. Now I cook mostly for myself. I was in the art and antique business for most of my working years and know what it's like to get dinner on the table when you're tired after work! In my day, husbands didn't help!
My favorite things to cook
I love fresh vegetable recipes for things I haven't used before. It's like being a mad chemist in the kitchen. Some things don't work, but mostly they do.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We ate too much meat when I was growing up. I want vegetables and rice now!
My cooking triumphs
I just cooked winter vegetable hash (recipe from this site) and it was the best vegetable dish so far! I really enjoyed it!
My cooking tragedies
This wasn't my tragedy...but I have a friend who is totally blind and he invited me over for a pot of beans. I lifted the lid and told him his water was red and asked where the beans were. I tilted the pot and looked, and it turned out to be red hots he was cooking!! We laughed and laughed. He told me he was glad I discovered it before he wasted onions, etc. People without sight really struggle in the kitchen!

Winter Vegetable Hash
I am so happy to find this recipe! And my tummy is too! It's sweet and salty and savory and has all sorts of flavors going for it. I had some anise that I needed to do something with so I cooked it in too, but it didn't add any flavor I don't think. We didn't have any good shallots at the market, so I added onion. The fresh sage really makes this sing!!

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake
This is Yummy! Any liquid you put in is soaked up by the potatoes lining the casserole. It makes it taste like a wonderful hash. Be careful about the cloves...it could overpower it. I would fix this again and it would be an excellent dish for a potluck dinner.
