New England Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
These came out very well & I've made this recipe many times. The first time I made it, I used refrigerated crab from the seafood counter that was very expensive, like $12 lb. After that I started using canned crab (found near the cans of tuna) & it was much, much better. I make this as written & serve with tarter sauce on the side.

Indian Saffron Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
I thought this was incredible. I made it exactly as written but I used brown rice instead of white because that's all I had.

Slow Cooker Barbeque

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
I've made this as written a bunch of times & it's always comes out great. I use Weber BBQ sauce because it's one of the few sauces that doesn't contain HFCS. Many reviewers mentioned throwing out the sauce due to fattiness then adding a new jar of sauce.... that seems wasteful. While I shred the beef, I put the sauce through a fat separator then pour back into the pot. Works for us. Thanks for the recipe.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
This recipe makes a fantastic roast. I've made this many times exactly as written & it always comes out great. It's very important to let the meat rest after taking it out of the oven because if you cut into it right away all the juices will run out.

Beer Braised Irish Stew and Colcannon

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2014
This was great! I made it exactly as written. The chuck roast took a long time to cut up. Used Newcastle brown ale. Would make again.

Rita's Sweet Holiday Baked Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
Made exactly as written. The ham did not absorb the juices. The most flavorable pieces were the ones sitting in the juices. On the plus side, at least the ham wasn't dry. Too much trouble for a mediocre outcome & a waste of of semi-expensive ingredients. Glad I didn't make this on a holiday.

Very good, nice change from potato pancakes. We topped the waffles with sour cream & served with applesauce & pork sausage patties. Thanks for the recipe.

Easy Bacon and Cheese Quiche

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2012
This was pretty good but I wish I had sauteed the onions first. Used bacon pieces instead of bits. May or may not make again.

Hot and Sour Chinese Eggplant

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2012
I really enjoyed this. I couldn't find Chinese eggplant so I used regular eggplant. I doubled the sauce but wish I had tripled- will do that next time. Thanks for the recipe. Edit: I've made this a lot & I now added 1 lb of browned ground pork & triple the sauce. Makes for a very tasty meal over rice.

Blueberry Waffles with Fast Blueberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2012
Very good. I added 2 T sugar & 1 t vanilla. My husband thought the sauce was a little tart so I will sweeten it up more next time. Thanks for the recipe.

Ham 'N' Cheddar Cups

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2012
Just made these. I used whole flour since I don't keep white flour on hand. Added 1 t of dry mustard & 1 t of parsley for added flavor. Made 12 jumbo muffins (I don't have regular size muffin pans). The muffins were dry. I think they need some fat in the batter... some butter or vegetable oil. I also wish I had taken them out 5 mins sooner like other reviewers mentioned. Will try again with more changes.

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
Very good. I didn't use a crust to save calories & didn't add whipped topping for the same reason, other than that, made as directed. Next time I will use pumpkin pie spice. Thanks for the recipe.

Grilled Blue Cheese Pears

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2012
Very good. I don't feel the hot sauce added anything. I also don't feel mixing the blue cheese with butter was necessary, I won't bother next time. Thanks for the recipe.

Teriyaki Pork Kabobs

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2012
This was good but it was too much work for the outcome. Made as written, there is no way you can get 4 servings out of that unless you serve a side dish with it. I don't really get the appeal of kabobs, I feel it's easier to make veggie foil packets to serve with a grilled slab(s) of meat. This had a nice flavor but I won't be making again.

Grilled Cabbage II

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2012
This is really good. I cut the the cabbage into large pieces rather than leave it in wedges & use olive oil instead of butter. I mix up the veggies, garlic, salt, pepper & olive oil in a large bowl then pour it onto a large piece of foil sprayed with cooking spray. I cook the large foil packet over medium heat on my gas grill for 40 mins. So far I've made this twice, the first time as I stated above, the second time I added 18 oz cooked Italian sausage to the foil packet & it was very, very tasty! Will keep this in our rotation. Thanks!
