I really prefer baking - cooking is just something I do to feed my family.
My favorite things to cook
Any dessert involving chocolate, or caramel, or mint, or cake, or...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving and Christmas are traditionally very similar meals in my family. Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing (if Uncle Arnold is visiting we'll make one version with oysters), broccoli, rice and cheese casserole, pineapple souffle (aka bread pudding), and our favorite must-have: thick egg noodles for ladling over the mashed potatoes - we get some strange looks for that :D We also make cranberries, but we make them sweet (boiling them with sugar until they breakdown), and pour half-and-half over them as a dessert.
My cooking triumphs
Super picky DH loves my homemade burritos, says they're better than any restaurant. He also raved the first time I brined a turkey, said it was the first time he had ever liked roasted turkey (he thought it was always dry and tasteless).
My cooking tragedies
I will never live down two particular incidents: the time I used Crisco to grease the pan when I was making fudge (my dad called it Grudge), and when I tried making lollipops. The recipe called them Lolligogs, but my dad once again came up with the perfect nickname: Lolligags. They were vile.
