Hi Everyone,

As I have previously mentioned, I am a graduate student working with a spice company for my thesis project, which is a full-scale marketing research study. My project pertains to online purchases of food-based products.

If you could submit a brief answer, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Here's the FINAL question:  What are the types of food that you buy online?

I buy gluten free things that I can't get in my area and also sometimes spices and vanilla pods.

I have purchased spices online and k-cups for my Keurig coffee machine. (I'm not sure that counts, but I buy them!) :)

I buy spices online and it now seems if I want to continue using a certain type of flour I may have to buy it online.

I had to really think on this one. The only time I have ordered food online (and I am sure I can count on one hand) is candy. I bought special lolipops for one of my sons b-days. And v-day candy from a special store in Pittsburg PA!

Spices and extracts that aren't found in the grocery store are the only things I purchase online. Good luck with your thesis!

I order glaced fruit every year for my Christmas baking-the stuff in the stores is terrible! Also, I like to browse the British food sites, I try things I'm not familiar with or that I have read about.

Spices, vanilla beans, flour, K-cups, hard to find items in my area such as Duck fat, organic and GMO free Lecithin, pure oils, extracts, flavorings, bulk nuts, high fiber foods like Chia bran and inulin powder.

I have items that I regularly purchase auto-shipped on a schedule. Some of these items are coffee (sent from Kona), certain non-GMO items that are difficult to buy in-store, tea, organic items (not because I can't buy them locally, but because buying online saves money) and pet food. I have all of these items on scheduled shipments, as it saves hassle as well as money.

The only food I've ever bought online was candy, and it was for all my neices and nephews for christmas last year. But I would buy baking supplies and hard to find things I suppose.

I buy food through Amazon and Walmart for a disabled friend in another city. She can only afford basic food since she only has only $600 a month fron social security to live on. My sister and I order food to be shipped that she would not be able to buy for herself. Only problem is the volume of food you have to purchase at one time. Twelve cans of chili is a little much but at least it will keep. She would like some Ranch Style Beans but I will have to ship myself since she has asked that I not send 12 cans. She has space limitations. Would be a great online business for someone I would think -

That was from Harry & David but DH just reminded me that years ago we did also order meat from Omaha Steaks -

Oct. 23, 2013 3:18 pm
I buy steaks, coffee, wine, candy, things hard to find in local stores (like kosher jello), bulk cinnamon sticks which are Dramatically cheaper online.

Oct. 23, 2013 3:22 pm
I order a lot of items I cannot get in my local area, Vegemite for my Australian husband as well as gift packages for our family in Alaska. Spices, candy, microwave pork rinds, seasoned oils, specialty condiments and items for making our own gift packages.

I ordered my whole grocery list from Peapod when I was on bedrest during a pregnancy, but I'm not sure that's the same thing. I have ordered steaks from Omaha several times (some for us, sometimes for family in other states), a frozen lasagna dinner for my grandfather, holiday themed candy from Oriental Trading, fruit and chocolate (usually in the form of a gift basket from a floral site or other website).

Oct. 23, 2013 6:06 pm
I have only bought spices on line.

Spices that are difficult to find (ex: types of cinnamon); bulk spices - organic from Frontier (ex: different types of sesame seeds, poppy seeds); Asian foods that are difficult to find (ex: sauces, different types of curry paste). Sometimes food gifts - delicious pears from H&D, petite fours.

Oct. 24, 2013 5:03 am
Coffee from New Orleans, Alligator & Crawfish from SW Louisiana, Honey Wine Vinegar from Utah & Maple Syrup from Vermont are my standard orders. Sometimes I will order a hard to find spice or sauce but that is about it.

Unique teas. I buy from the Mighty Leaf site and occasionaly Teavania online as the store in the Mall of America has been less than satisfactory for me.

Oct. 24, 2013 1:26 pm
I have bought extracts and sauce mixes online - I've found that most online groceries are more expensive than I can find in traditional stores.

Oct. 25, 2013 12:08 pm
I buy all kinds of food online. I live in a small town and sometimes cannot find things locally so I turn to amazon.com and often use their subscribe-n-save program. I also buy specialty foods online and I have several relatives who enjoy food gifts which I purchase online and have shipped directly to the recipient. I have never had a problem, even with fresh seafood which I have also ordered several times.

Horlicks malted milk tablets...from Vermont Country Store. Had them sent to a midwest cousin since we enjoyed them so much as children...in the 1930's.
