My favorite things to cook
I love appetizers! I don't have children so a lot of nights my husband and I have appetizers rather than a large meal. When I do cook a big meal, I like to try new recipes at least once a week. We do not like to eat the same things over and over, so we have a lot of variety. We love to grill out, so anything on the grill is great!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom taught me to cook. It was always a great bonding experience for us. We both love to try new recipes, and we still get together a lot to cook.

Tender Breaded Turkey Cutlets
This was a great way to use left over turkey. I had very little sour cream, so I also added equal parts of mayo and dijon mustard - it was delicious.

Shredded Potato Quiche
I served this quiche last night when a few friends showed up for dinner unannounced. I had baked the quiche the night before since I was planning on getting home late from work and not having time to cook dinner. After about 2 minutes in the microwave it was ready to serve and got rave reviews from both my husband and our friends, who wanted the recipe. Instead of using ham I substituted bacon and added chopped red pepper, green pepper, onion, and mushrooms. I did not have any packaged frozen hash browns, so I shredded two potatoes in my food processor. Like most of the reviewers I had trouble getting the potatoes to brown. I think next time I will cook the hash browns in a skillet with a little bit of oil as I would any hash browns, and then transfer to the pan to top with ingredients and bake so that they have the crunch that I love in hash browns. This is a very versatile recipe I look forward to experimenting with it.

Cheesy Carrots
These were really great. They are very similar to mashed sweet potatoes. I was really surprised how much flavor carrots have. I did add some milk to the recipe because it seemed a little dry to me. I will make this recipe again, however, I think the next time I will leave the bread crumbs off. I used finely ground crumbs and they did not brown, although the carrots did and it did not add any flavor, just made the dish messier.
