About this Cook
Both my husband and I have demanding jobs, but we make an effort to eat dinner together every night. We like to eat healthy and low-fat, particularly seafood, though I get to try my hand at the more "fun" recipes when we entertain.
My favorite things to cook
I love meal planning. My favorite thing to do is put together a full meal, making sure the tastes go well together, the table settings match the meal, and selecting different wines.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is from Sicily, and by far and away my favorite meal of the year is on Christmas Eve. The meal involves lots of different fish (from traditional "bacchala" fish stew to fried calamari) as well as my grandmother's cauliflower "schrippele", or fritters.
My cooking triumphs
Finally being able to make a great homemade pizza dough, which has become a staple at home.
My cooking tragedies
I am the worst at baking cookies. Although I follow the directions, they always come out so terribly! I've tried to find the root of the problem by changing cookie sheets, checking my oven, and adding ingredients...but I suspect I may be the true problem.

Chipotle Honey Roasted Peanuts
I absolutely loved this recipe--it was surprisingly easy (I thought it would be more complicated with all the pans), and they had the perfect taste combination. Sweet and salty, smokey with a little kick at the end. I really recommend the chipotle seasoning--definitely an important part of the recipe.

Ravioli Soup
This reminds me of a soup my grandma used to make, and it turned out very well. I added more water (4 cups), and used an extra bouillon cube (3) rather than the soy sauce. It will definitely be made again and again.

Cranberry Nut Bread I
I just made this recipe for the first time to give out as Christmas gifts. I followed the recipe exactly (added a few more nuts), and it turned out so beautifully. It looks pretty, and the texture is perfect. I'm also giving out Giada's Mascarpone Honey spread to go with it, for a little sweetness.
