My favorite family cooking traditions
I love helping out my mom whenever she is in the kitchen making dinner and every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I always help her store the turkey away and portion it off after the big meal. I also sneak a few (okay, a lot) of bites!!
My cooking triumphs
When my classmates compliment me and tell me that my baking is fantastic, it really does mean a lot to me!
My cooking tragedies
One year for Christmas, I baked a Martha Stewart vanilla cake with a cranberry filling and chocolate ganache. This was a couple years ago, when I thought that I could just cut the butter and sugar in things by half and not have to worry about the taste being affected. Clearly, not adding enough butter and sugar to my cake turned out horribly... I even used whole wheat flour and it was as hard and dry as a rock! My chocolate ganache didn't set because I had used milk instead of cream and the cranberry filling was so runny, it just made the cake a gloppy mess... Needless to say, I now make sure to add aquedate amounts of everything into my food, even if it is unhealthy :)

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
I don't really like nutmeg, so I just used extra cinnamon and a pinch of cloves for the spices. I also reduced the sugar my about a third, and it was still nice and sweet, with a cinnamon-y and pumpkin-y flavour!

Banana Bread I
This bread ended up being gummy in the middle, even though I baked it for over an hour... The taste, however, was nice.

Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread
Yum! This is a great base that can be modified to suit your taste, if you want a saltier cheesier flavour, add more cheese, if you want the butter and garlic to shine throug, use less cheese.
