Turkey Time!

I am SOOOO excited about Thanksgiving this year because I have given myself a few challenges. I know that most people would say to me 'I don't think thanksgiving is the best day to try things for the first time' but I can't help it, my adrenaline is already pumping and it's only Sunday!

Here is my list of challenges.

-11.5 lb roasted turkey (I have never done a turkey with no help and I will be brining mine the night before, also a first for me)

-Homemade gravy (my family always had it from a jar. And now that I think about it, I remember them throwing away most of the turkey drippings). :-(

-Roasted garlic mashed potatoes (Mine will be BLUE!)

-Green beans with slivered almonds and parmesan cheese (I'm still not sure if the parm will work but who cares, I'm trying it).

-Cranberry-orange sauce (I've NEVER had cranberry sauce before so I am looking forward to this!)

-"Grandma's cornbread dressing" - found this recipe on allrecipes.com and loved it last year. So I had to just add this to my Thanksgiving this year.

-Savory monkey bread! (Bread balls that have been dipped in parsley, dill, cheddar, almonds and paprika (Just the name was enough to convince me to put it on my table).

-Sweet Italian sausage & soppressata lasagna - (this was a last minute request from my boyfriends mom and I had to give in. She loves when I cook).

-Pumpkin-coconut pie (Found this recipe in my FN magazine and had to try it. I didn't even know pumpkin and coconut worked together).

So there they are. Every single challenge I have set for myself and I am confident that I will meet every single one of them. I've only got one guy rooting for me (my boyfriend who is extra excited about having so much food.) but that is all I need.

I will be cooking mostly everything two days in advance because I will be at work the day after Thanksgiving at 5AM so no time to stress over cooking that day. Only time to EAT, EAT, and EAT some more!

Wish me luck!

Enough Thanksgiving talk. I'm gonna go and watch me some football and have me some hot chocolate. Let's go RAVENS!!!

I might stealing your idea and making some savory monkey bread. I've been trying to find something to bring for my family's Thanksgiving dinner, and that sounds delicious. This is a super ambitious menu but it sounds absolutely yummy. Hope all goes well with the follow through!

Thanks guys for the support! You need to try the monkey bread. Remember to dip each ball into a separate topping. You'll love it!

Abby, sounds like you are having a wonderful spread at Thanksgiving. My son would like the lasagna and the monkey bread.

About Me
I love food! But I think that will become pretty obvious to many of you. I'll try almost ANY recipe and will most likely modify it according to my palate as I go. Eating is an adventure and I crave new experiences.
My favorite things to cook
Italian has become the "go to" food for me. I believe it is the easiest and very yummy. But... I am gonna have to go with Indian cuisine. The different levels of flavors within this type of cuisine is extraordinary. I hope to be able to cook Indian food at home and have it taste as good as the local spots.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving. I love ALL of the things that be brought to the table. I transitioned from a traditional turkey to a honey glazed Virginia ham and I have never gone back. I am trying to have a thanksgiving pot luck at my new apartment so that we can all enjoy different styles of food.
My cooking triumphs
I roasted a whole chicken! AND DIDN'T UNDER/OVER COOK IT. Every new creation in the kitchen is a triumph for me.
My cooking tragedies
I over cooked some pork chops because I got caught up on an episode of Pioneer Woman. It was disastrous. Good thing we keep the take out pile nearby and ready.
