Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2014
I do not see how this recipe could be improved on in any way. They are perfection! I used a hand mixer to do all the stirring. I used a little less cinnamon than it called for. The cookies turned out crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside! The entire batch was devoured. Thanks so much!

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
This is the perfect strawberry spinach salad! I loved it and so did the other 20 people at the family gathering I was attending. I doubled the recipe and the bowl was licked clean. I had plenty of leftover dressing though, which is great because I want to make more salad, it was so good! I decided to add green onions to the salad and not put any in the dressing just because that's what I had. I also sprinkled on some feta cheese because I enjoy the salty cheese with the sweet dressing and berries. I like the idea of adding bacon next time!

Horseradish Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
These are delicious! I used a little less horseradish that the recipe called for because I wanted more of a horseradish flavor without the heat and it was perfect. A full tablespoon would probably be perfect for those wanting a little burn. :-) I will make these again for sure!

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
A friend made these for a luncheon and even though mushrooms are not a huge favorite of mine, these were delicious! My friend added bacon bits to hers and cut down on the cayenne so they weren't too spicy. She also used the same filling for jalepeno peppers which were super yummy! She made the mushrooms and peppers for at least 3 events in a row and they were devoured every time. :-)

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
This crisp recipe is SO good! I forgot the tablespoons of flour that go on the apples. It turned out just fine. Not runny at all. I added nutmeg because I like the taste. :-) I used fresh rolled oats. I doubled the topping because I love it so much! After it was done baking the topping had a very light crispiness to it that was probably a result of the baking powder and soda. VERY pleasing!

Oatmeal Pancakes II

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
Fabulous! I made the recipe exactly as it's written and the result was perfect. The flavor of the oats is delicious and I love the texture they give to the pancakes! The batter is thick and creamy and the pancakes are fluffy. (Note: another reviewer commented that the baking soda wasn't needed but she used milk instead of buttermilk. It's only when buttermilk is used in a recipe that baking soda is needed.)

Lebanese-Style Red Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
Perfect! I replaced the cayenne with fresh ground black pepper so it wouldn't be too spicy and added 3/4 teaspoon salt, but otherwise I kept everything else the same. It was thick but not too thick and had delicious flavor. The cilantro and lemon juice really add the perfect final touch!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
This is perfect chili! I made it as written as much as possible. I didn't know how hot it would be so I used Aneheim peppers and cut back on the cayenne, black pepper and Tabasco. I didn't drain the chili beans and I used Ranch Style beans in place of the chili beans in spicy sauce. I left out the beer. I used smoked paprika. The result was fabulous! It might have been a little thicker if I had drained the chili beans, but it wasn't too thin either! I cooked the meat, drained it and added it to a crock pot with all the other ingredients to cook for 6 hours on high. Even though this recipe has a lot of ingredients, it's easy to make.

Dos Queso Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
I needed a cold queso recipe for a large banquet. I decided to adapt this one. I left out the oregano but kept everything else the same. I didn't bake it, just blended everything together, chilled and served it with Fritos. It was wonderful! Four times the recipe served 250 people along with other appetizers.

Peach Pie the Old Fashioned Two Crust Way

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
Perfect in every way! I used fresh ripe peaches and it was so delicious! The only thing I did different was use 1/4 cup flour and 1/4 cup quick cooking tapioca. I really like tapioca in pies!

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2010
I made this recipe into patties that I cooked on my stovetop. The flavor was good if you enjoy a dominate steak sauce taste. The patties did not hold together at all. I suspect that if I had baked it into a meatloaf, as directed, it would have been more solid! The addition of cheese to the mix was interesting.

Sour Cream Lemon Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
It's been a little while since I made this recipe but I remember that it was very good! I made some changes so that the filling would be creamy but tangy. I reduced the milk to 1 1/2 cups, increased the sour cream to 1 cup, increased the lemon zest to 1 tablespoon and increased the lemon juice to 2/3 cup.

Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2010
It's hard to review a recipe that you ended up changing alot. I can't tell you if the original recipe is 5 star, but the result I ended up with was really good! I had leftover scones I needed to use up and used those in place of the bread cubes. I used half white, half brown sugar and added cinnamon and nutmeg. The result was unlike anything I've had before! It was "custardy" but the scones gave it a shortcake-type texture. I served it with the yummy sauce and fresh strawberries!

Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2010
I was looking for a good sweet and sour sauce to put on a pork stir fry I had just made. I used the sauce recipe within this recipe and it was delicious! I used brown sugar instead of white, just because it sounded good to me. :-) And I didn't add pineapple because I was out. It was a yummy sauce that I will make again.

Glazed Apple Cream Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
My husband and I both enjoyed this pie very much! I upped the cinnamon to 1 teaspoon and added a 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. I also added extra apples. Maybe 3 or so? Otherwise I followed the directions. Delicious!

Old Fashioned Paradise Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
I made the recipe exactly as it says but doubled the streusel, because I wanted a generous crunchy topping. It turned out perfect! There is just the right balance of pumpkin, cheesecake and streusel. The baking time was right on and I had no problem with the layers mixing together. My husband liked the fact that the pie wasn't overly sweet. I served the pie with fresh whipped cream. Yum!
