Cool Whipped Frosting

Reviewed: May 28, 2005
I really liked this; I used it to frost a 2-layer strawberry cake for my boyfriend's birthday and got lots of compliments. Besides, it was so easy! Thanks for the recipe :)

Tandoori Chicken II

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
This was ok; I was hoping it would have more flavor. I used the spices as written but used only 2 chicken breast halves and marinated for the whole day. I agree with another reviewer that this is more of a curry powder chicken than tandoori chicken. I don't know if I will make this again, but thank you for the recipe anyway!

Marrakesh Vegetable Curry

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
This smelled great until I added the orange juice; it was a little too sweet for me. I was hoping for something with more taste. I might try making this again, with some changes. Thanks for posting!

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: May 1, 2005
This is a good recipe! I think I'll add more water next time and cook it for longer on a lower temperature. Also I'll put in more cinnamon and some nutmeg :) Thanks for the recipe!

Asparagus Cashew Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2005
I was hesitant to feed this to the bf who is not fond of rice pilafs at all but he kept saying how good the rice was! No cashews in the house so I threw in some slivered almonds instead. Also I had to use a red onion and chicken broth (low sodium). The red onion turned out to be a bad idea since it turned grey after simmering so long - just a warning to any other novice cooks like me :) When I collect the correct ingredients, I will make this recipe as it was intended - many times.

Montreal Peppered Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2005
Plenty of flavor (I used the spicy version of seasoning) but not very tender, unfortunately. It's very easy, though, so I'll probably change some things and make it again.

BBQ Chicken Pizza I

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2005
This was really good! I did seem to use a little less of everything, though. I started with a Boboli crust (next time I will try to make my own because Boboli isn't great). I mixed equal parts Boboli pizza sauce with Tony Roma's barbeque sauce and spread it on the pizza. Then I halfway buried some sliced red onions in the sauce because the bf would freak out if there were visible onions on his pizza :) Then I partially defrosted some grilled chicken breast strips (Costco size bag I needed to use up!), sliced/shredded them, and cooked on medium with only enough barbeque sauce to coat all the pieces (put a lid on the pan) and some brown sugar. I put 3/4 of the chicken over the onions, added the cheese (2/3 mozzarella, 1/3 gouda), the rest of the chicken, then cilantro because I'm dumb and didn't read the part where it goes in the sauce. Next time I will put part in the sauce, and sprinkle with cilantro after baking. Thanks for an awesome recipe that I could adjust to my tastes without messing it up :)

Chinese Steamed Buns with Barbecued Pork Filling

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2005
This was a good recipe, but I think some of the directions were a little bit off: 1) 1/2 lb. of pork was much too little for 24 buns. I bought 1 lb just to be safe and still didn't have enough filling to go around. 2) The directions read 2 tablespoons of filling were to be put in each bun, but there were probably only 8 tablespoons of filling total; I think it should have read 1-2 teaspoons - or 1 tablespoon at the maximum, if you made extra filling. 3) Coating the bowl with 2 tablespoons of oil seemed excessive to me; I just used 1 and it worked fine. After I made these changes, things went smoothly and the char siu bao turned out great; a lot like the ones from back home! I made my own char siu with a packaged marinade mix instead of trying to find it at a store. If you want tasty dim sum, try this one out; if I can do it anyone can :) Thank you so much for the great recipe!

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2005
These are really good! I saved some time by buying the potatoes that come shrink wrapped with instructions for microwaving(only 15 minutes!). More expensive, but I was in a hurry and it worked great. I missed the part where it said to put the bacon on the top, so I made a little extra bacon and just mixed it in with everything else. Next time I will also experiment with extra seasonings just for fun. Thanks for the great recipe!

Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2005
I don't have a grill so I never thought I could make good ribs, but this is a great method! They were really tender and flavorful. I used spareribs, so I baked for an extra half hour and then broiled each side for 4 minutes at the end after basting with extra sauce. Next time I will make sure to use baby backs and not turn up the heat so high at the end, since that made them a little too crispy for me :) Definitely line the baking pan with foil and don't forget the cooking spray(like I did). Thanks for this wonderful cooking technique!

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2005
Really good stew! Lots of flavor, and very filling. I think my potatoes were too large though, because the thing was overrun with potatoes. I'll use smaller or fewer next time, and/or add more beef. Thanks for the great recipe!

Portuguese Fried Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2005
Apparently I did something wrong because mine tasted like flour. I tried all sizes of dough from golf ball(as suggested) to nearly baseball-sized. Thought I followed the recipe exactly and they looked beautiful but we couldn't eat them. Thanks for the recipe anyway :)

Mimi's Slumgullion

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2005
Tasty :) I probably would have rated it a 4 but my bf really loved it. Some parts were a little burnt so I'll make sure to add more liquid to the recipe next time. But overall, a good flavor; thanks!

Soba with Toasted Sesame Seed Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2005
Sorry, but I really didn't like this. The sauce smelled good while I was making it, but as soon as I mixed in the noodles, all I could smell was the vinegar. I decided to try it anyway, and let it sit for 30 minutes as the recipe suggests, but it still tasted vinegar-y, and I thought there were far too many sesame seeds. Maybe I did something wrong? Thanks for the post anyway.

French Toast I

Not bad, but I think it's missing something. My roommates seemed to like it, though. I'll probably try again with a bit more spices/vanilla. Thanks!

Jumbo Shrimp and Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2005
This was good; I think next time I'll double the sauce ingredients and/or cook the asparagus in some chicken broth to see if it increases the flavor. Also, I'll probably add some garlic like another reviewer suggested, but it was very easy and tasty over jasmine rice. Thank you!

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2005
This dish was pretty good, the chicken was very juicy and tender but I think I prefer the texture of panko(Japanese breadcrumbs). I'm sure I'll make it again with just a couple variations. Thanks!

Japanese-Style Deep Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2005
The chicken was very flavorful and smelled good while cooking. I didn't know what to serve it with though; I think next time I will either use chicken wings to make it, or cut the chicken into smaller pieces(1/2" - 3/4") and serve it as popcorn chicken. Thank you for the recipe!

Flavorful Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2005
I thought this was just average; not great, not bad. The idea of using apple juice as the cooking liquid was interesting to me, but I would prefer more spices and seasonings.
