About this Cook
I love to cook, quilt, crochet, fish, camp, read, and spend time with my family.
My favorite things to cook
I love making traditional Southern cuisine - i.e. comfort foods. Baking is something I also thoroughly enjoy. My family loves to eat, and I love to cook for them! :o)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a long line of home cooks. Mealtime has always been an event in our family. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of everyone gathering around the table to eat the plentiful dishes prepared by skilled hands. Traditions? Good home cooked food made with lots of love.
My cooking triumphs
Currently, my sourdough bread (and starter) which are turning out better than expected.
My cooking tragedies
Whole wheat bread. I've never been able to make a decent loaf, despite numerous attempts. I do, however, have several hefty door stops for sale.

Octoberfest German Potato Salad
This is an outstanding German potato salad! Even my picky teenager (who will NOT eat regular potato salad) eats this and asks for more. The only big change I made was to use a bit of dried dill in it for another layer of flavor. I did use red potatoes (which don't turn to mush when you boil them), and dehydrated minced onion for convenience. For those who are afraid to use the 2 teaspoons of salt listed, trust me - the potato salad NEEDS it. The people I know who have tried this recipe and didn't like it are the ones who wouldn't use the full amount of salt. It *does not* turn out salty (the potatoes absorb all of that wonderful flavor if you pour the dressing on while potatoes are still hot). Aside from the above mentioned tweaks, the recipe is perfect as originally written. This one is in my regular recipe rotation. Thanks so much!

Easy Chocolate Chip Pound Cake
This is so good, it doesn't even need a glaze!! I normally use a yellow cake mix with a box of vanilla pudding instead of the chocolate. It is incredibly moist and gets better every day (if it lasts that long). I mix some of the chocolate chips into the batter, then sprinkle a few on top before sticking it in the oven. Otherwise the chocolate chips tend to all congregate at the bottom of the pan. GREAT recipe! This one is a keeper, folks!

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries
These are absolutely FABULOUS! I made them last night and we ate the entire amount at one sitting (oink, oink!). I did substitute onion powder for the onion salt, and added 1 teaspoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt to the mix. I also wound up using probably an additional cup of water to get the consistency just right. I did drop them into the hot oil one at a time, but they still clumped, so I let them cook for a couple of minutes, then gently separated them with a long metal spoon. I wish I could give this recipe 10 stars - they are that good! They don't even need ketchup! Thanks, Cassie!!
