LOVE this bread. I have tried bread before unsuccessfully even in a bread machine, BUT this recipe is fool proof. I didn't have to add quite as much flour bc it was elastic and smooth with 4.5 cups. I pulled some out and made dinner rolls and still had enough left over for two loaves. HOWEVER, I did drop the sugar down to 1/4 C. And accidentally let it rise the first time about 2 hours. I also used an egg-wash before baking to get that beautiful golden color on top. Still with these differences, the bread baked up fine and is pretty much gone as soon as it came out of the oven.
