Squash Braid

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2011
Really good. You can't taste the squash in it, but it has a nice, slightly sweet flavor. I'll be making this again.

Butternut Squash Risotto

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
This was really good. I only used 3 cups of stock and that seemed to be more than enough.

Fragrant Autumn Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
Don't see what all the fuss is about. This soup is good, but the addition of the corn seems to take it down a few notches. I will agree that it smelled FANTASTIC. I think it's (oddly enough) a combo of the tomatoes and the cinnamon. If Yankee Candle ever comes out with a Cinnamon Tomato candle I'll be the first to buy it! ;)

Butternut Squash Pizzas with Rosemary

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
Surprisingly good! I added way more Parmesan than the 2TBSP called for and I added it before I put it back in the oven for 10 mins. I used a sprinkling of dried rosemary. I only gave it 4 stars because I believe this would taste a million times better if you used a pizza "crust" made of phyllo dough instead. I'll try it that way next time.

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
We absolutely loved the sauce. I didn't find it to be too thin, possibly because I didn't use a slow cooker. I cooked it in a dutch oven on the stovetop over low heat for about 6 hours. I'm giving this five stars because it is a good recipe, but this would taste waaaaaaay better if you used the recipe for pork instead of beef. I'll definitely keep this recipe for the sauce, but I'll only use it to cook pork.

Pineapple Banana Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
Why is this not the best reviewed banana bread on this site? It is amazing. But I think the name is a detriment because people assume it's going to have pineapple flavor, unlike a standard banana bread. However, I can't really taste the pineapple at all. It just helps make the bread incredibly moist. The only problem I have with this recipe is that it makes a LOT of batter--more than two loaves worth--so if I just fill two loaf pans the outside of the bread is overcooked by the time the inside is cooked enough. I would recommend making this into two loaves and a handful of muffins. Putting that much batter into a standard loaf pan isn't going to give you the best results. And I never make it without adding walnuts, like others have recommended.

Sugar Peanuts

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
So much for everyone's advice to "Just Keep Stirrin'!" I stirred and stirred and stirred, waiting for the liquid to crystalize. Now my kitchen is full of smoke and I have a pan of peanuts covered in blackened goo.

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
This recipe is fantastic. The finished product tastes like Bush's Baked Beans, but I grew up eating B&M Baked Beans, which have a different flavor. If you prefer B&M Baked Beans, you may find this recipe slightly too tangy as I did. Next time I make it I'll increase the molasses and decrease the ketchup.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
These were awesome! I'd never had falafel before, but I've been looking for high-protein, high-fiber snacks to make and anything with chickpeas seemed like a good idea so I gave these a try. I didn't make the cucumber sauce because of food allergies, but the falafels themselves were fanastic. I had to add closer to 2 cups of breadcrumbs and I found that cooking them over medium heat worked better than medium-high.

Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
Awesome recipe! I anticipated being able to detect potato flavor, especially since one reviewer mentioned how they ended up tasting like peppermint mashed potatoes, but I definitely did not have that problem. Since I'm gluten and dairy-free now, I've been busy trying to find candy recipes that I can easily convert to fit my dietary needs. This one was really easy to do. Instead of the butter, I used ghee and that was the only change I needed to make. My only advice would be to USE DARK CHOCOLATE INSTEAD OF SEMI-SWEET. The semi-sweet is still too sweet for peppermint patties. That's the only reason I didn't give this recipe 5 stars. I also halved the recipe when I made it and that worked out perfectly. And I made sure to pretty much overcook the potatoes so they'd be lump-free. I also skipped the drying process and just tossed them in the freezer, left them in there for about 15 minutes, and then QUICKLY dipped them one at a time into a shallow pan of chocolate, RAPIDLY flipped it over to coat the other side, and slapped it back onto the waxed paper. You've got about 5 seconds to complete this whole process before the patty starts to fall apart so work fast! GREAT recipe!

Classic American-Style Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
I really didn't care for this recipe. I guess maybe I just prefer the potato/mayo/celery-type salad, but I know that the texture of the sweet pickles (which I VERY finely chopped) was fairly disturbing.

Beth's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2006
I did not care for these cookies at all. They were very thick and cake-like--I like my cookies moist and chewy. Plus, they got stale extremely quickly.
