I am an expat that enjoys eating traditional dishes from each region I live in as well as learning how to prepare them.
My favorite things to cook
I prefer preparing simple dishes that are based on fresh ingredients, and lots of veggies. I like playing with exotic, unusual flavor combos (sweet and savoury for example) and I add heat to almost every dish I make (love them chili peppers). I usually cook on the stove top and rarely in the oven (unless I am baking).
My favorite family cooking traditions
No one in my family cooks so I don't have the usual feel good stories about sitting around the table and enjoying a homemade meal. It was all about eating out.
My cooking triumphs
I introduced my French friends to homemade ranch dressing, sticky date pudding, and baklava. They are all big fans now except they still can't pronounce ranch dressing so they call in "sauce blanc" or white sauce.
My cooking tragedies
Take my time, let my thoughts wonder, put on great music I can sing to or cook with friends as it is always so much more fun.
