Multi-tasking: My mom was brilliant!

As I was going thru the family recipes (that were actually written), I realized that they were written to serve 4 to 6 people, but that when growing up, we always made sooooooo much more than the recipe indicated.

While eavesdropping on my teen-aged daughter, who was teaching her younger step-sister how to double a cookie recipe, I noticed that she was quizzing her on what the amounts should actually be. As the younger child responded incorrectly, two times in a row, my wise-quacker older child responded "that's why we go to school!"

At that moment, I realized that my mother had inadvertantly given me a head-start in learning algebraic fraction conversions (math), and while allrecipes.com has a recipe quantity converter, I seldom use it, having been "home-schooled" in math by having to duplicate and reduce recipe sizes, myself. BRILLIANT! Wait til the grandkids want to bake with me :).

BTW, it's cook's day off:  I'm serving store bought frozen gnocchi with the leftover sauce from my spaghetti squash lasagna, that I made a few days ago. Tossed salad, glass of wine, inexpensive and YUM!

I can really use the extra time, today, to finish my school and work assignments so that I can enjoy Purdue's Homecoming festivities this weekend, nearly guilt-free. Since I can hear the marching band from home,  I'll have time to wander over in the morning, check things out, then come home and leave college football to the young-uns.  I'm very easily distracted, especially when chores are looming. LOL.

@ellenmoriah: I LOVE curry. Can't wait to try your recipe. I'll be cut-and-paste posting it (with credit to you) on my profile page, so that I can  easily find it for remakes. Scrolling thru my blog to find it again will make me crazy, and I just know that others will want to make it, too.

@Davidica: Not only will I share kitchen disasters, but my husband has agreed to guest host my blog once a week, for truth-in-advertising critiques :).  No telling what he will come up with, I probably should be afraid -- very afraid.

More to come......

Fun, fun. A dynamic duo! Hmmm... with all your math skills, what are the odds? Love it.
