I'm a true southern girl who loves to bake. Although I'm a pretty good cook everyday cooking is not my thing. But ask me to bake and I'm ready. My mother taught me along time ago, the most important ingredient you need when cooking/baking is love. If you don't add that in nothing will come out right. I've found out how right she was. If I can't put love in it, I don't do it.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a family of bakers and we only use White Lily All-Purpose Flour, Dixie Crystal Sugar and Land-o-Lakes Butter. When we bake cakes we don't throw the egg shells away until the cake is done. Never knew why but that's the way mama did it and we have all stuck to it. We can give away any recipe except her cake recipe. We have been sworn to secrecy.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest challenge was something very simple...gravy. For the life of me I could not get gravy to come out right. I have finally mastered it. I was determined it would not defeat me.
My cooking tragedies
My first few cakes did not turn out like mama's. I later found out that was because she left out a couple of major steps. She wanted to make sure I was worthy of her secrets first. I passed the test and now my cakes taste exactly like hers.
