Maple-Garlic Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
We were a little disappointed with this recipe. I cooked it on the outdoor grille and it was just OK for us. I reserved and boiled the marinade, using it for basting while grilling and drizzled some over the sliced meat when serving. I did add quite a bit of freshly ground black pepper to the marinade hoping to offset the sweetness but still too sweet. This one is not a 'keeper' for us.

Salmon Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2012
Thanks Kenulia bit this was just OK for us. Following the advise of another reviewer I chose to omit the cheese which we normally would not include in a salmon chowder anyway. I used a fresh minced clove of garlic and fresh salmon in place of the garlic powder and canned salmon. If I make this again I would use less creamed corn because even with fresh salmon it seemed to overpower the dish. We thought it made it taste more like a corn chowder with a little salmon in it.

Cherry Crisp

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
Four stars for ease of preparation but far too sweet for us. The only change I made was butter in place of margarine. Serving it with vanilla ice cream does help tone down the sweetness. Probably won't make it again but may use the topping for an apple crisp. Thanks Holly.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
This has been our go to pancake recipe for some time now. Finally getting around to reviewing it...no changes necessary to this one. These are excellent pancakes! I had some buttermilk on hand today and decided to use it in place of the milk. The buttermilk made the batter way too thick and did not improve the flavor. Actually had to add some regular milk to thin it to the proper consistency. Tip...stick to regular milk and use your buttermilk for something else.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
Great coleslaw in a hurry! I made it per the recipe the first time, found it a little sweet but otherwise very good. Next time I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup, used white wine vinegar and low fat mayo. This is a good recipe that is quick and tasty. It appears dry when mixed but after a couple of hours in the fridge is just right. Thanks for posting it Sandi.

Pollo Fajitas

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
I usually try a recipe as written the first time, as was the case here. Sorry Teresa but we found these quite bland and will continue to look for the 'homerun' recipe. Not bad - just so so. Thanks anyway.

Three Bean Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
Enjoyed this salad and will make again. Really like the dressing because is not as sweet as most we have tried. Will probably use lima beans in place of the chickpeas next time. This type of recipe is quite flexible so you could use any combination of beans.

Crumb-Topped Rhubarb

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
It's OK but was way too sweet for our liking. Three cups of rhubarb is not enough for a 12x8 dish. We used a 9x9 and the layer of rhubarb was still very thin. Definitely needs more rhubarb. Thanks for posting it Betty but we will keep on looking for one that better suits our taste.

Jalapeno Corn Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2007
Thanks, Archie. A quick & tasty treat to go along with our chili tonight. Unlike the photo shown with the recipe the peppers all float to the top of the cake when baked - followed the recipe exactly. It would look a lot nicer if they were spread throughout the cake. However, it was delicious and I will probably make it again. Don't worry about the peppers, three of us agreed it is not spicy at all. The sugar must offset the heat somewhat.

Grilled Sweet Potatoes

Sorry, these were disappointing. Not at all what was expected from the reviews provided. Just average at best. Doubt if I will make them again.

Grilled Halibut Steaks

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
Tried this recipe with halibut steaks and it was very tasty. The seasoned butter does not overpower the flavor of the fish. Used fresh minced onion in place of dried and a combo of salt and garlic powder for the garlic salt. Stay close to the grill because there will be flare-ups. I would definitely make this again.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
The name suits the recipe. Very, very good brownies that are a breeze to make. Mmm-Mmm, sweet fudgy brownies. No need to change a thing here. Bet you can't eat just one.

Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
Wish I could give this way more stars. I have made this twice in the last four weeks and will probably make it again very soon. Followed the recipe exactly, no changes required. A moist flavorable ham that is very simple to prepare. Don't worry about the amount of liquid smoke, it does not over power the dish. From now on this is the way I cook ham. Thank you Connie for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Green Bean and Portobello Mushroom Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
Sorry, this is not for me. I followed the recipe exactly and was quite disappointed. Since the recipe had many good reviews I decided to give it a whirl for a potluck we were attending. Everybody there had the same re-action, not bad, but.... we don't think we would make it again. I agree.

Restaurant-Style Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2005
This a good basic potato salad I have been making for some time now. I first saw it years ago on the 'Top Secret Recipes' web site as a copy cat version of "KFC Potato Salad". It is very close in taste to the KFC version. If you like their's, you will like this.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2005
Theses are more like a cupcake than a muffin. Way to much topping for the recipe and the topping is not very crumbly which makes it hard to 'sprinkle' over the muffins. Sorry Collen but we won't try these again.

Homemade Vanilla Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2005
Very good vanilla pudding. To avoid lumps, place cold milk in the saucepan, add dry ingredients and whisk until lump free and then cook as directed. If you like, place some fresh fruit in your dessert bowl and pour on the pudding. Thanks Rosemary.

Hobo's Delight

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2005
This is a quick, convenient, comfort food meal that can easily be adjusted to feed many or a few. For each packet I sliced some regular carrots in place of the baby carrots and added some sliced fresh mushrooms. Also drizzled a good amount of olive oil over the top of the vegetables before sealing the packets. I scaled the recipe to 3 servings which reduced the ground beef to 1 pound. To the ground beef I mixed in 2 tsps Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1-1/2 tsps Italian seasoning and 2 tbsp of roasted garlic ketchup. Thanks Michelle. This is a great recipe when you want a good dinner without a lot of dishes to clean up.

Baked Honey Nut Chicken

Reviewed: May 14, 2005
I decided to try this recipe after reading all the good reviews it received. I was very disappointed with the results. Quite tasteless and bland. I will stick to homemade shake & bake. If you are looking for an excellent recipe try 'Chicken Breasts Pierre' which is also on this web site.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: May 5, 2005
This is a good recipe as is. The second time I made it I did make a couple of minor changes which kicked it up a notch for me. I substituted a teaspoon of dry mustard for the prepared mustard. I also added 1-1/2 teaspoons of white vinegar and 3/4 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. If you like to pile it on your buns like I do, this recipe only makes four servings. Great recipe Tamara.
