Grandma's Doughnuts

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
I looked at this recipe and thought, "Biscuit dough? There's no way that tastes like doughnuts." It tastes like doughnuts. I am converted.

Mom's Apple Fritters

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2013
These are a wonderful autumn treat. I added a little cinnamon to the batter for extra flavor. The first batch I made the mistake of making my spoonfuls too big and then not frying them for long enough, so my first few were doughy inside, but one I got the size and cook time down they were perfect. Very easy to make if you have a deep fryer.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2013
This has become our go-to veggie burger recipe and we typically make it at least once a week! I like to add canned mushrooms, drained well and chopped, for a little extra flavor. They will hold together fine as long as you drain everything very thoroughly before mixing, and you can add some extra breadcrumbs if you're still having trouble. Delicious with some cheese melted on top. One of my most-used recipes.

Pumpkin Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2013
These are fantastic cookies, lightly pumpkiny and sweet with a great blend of flavors. The proportions are spot-on; mine made exactly the estimated 3 dozen. I added a little ginger and nutmeg as well, just a dash of each, and I recommend playing around with whatever spices you like in your pumpkin to get it just right for you! I also cut the chips back to 1 cup because as other reviewers have mentioned, butterscotch chips are quite sweet. If you like a very sweet cookie you will probably be fine with the given amount; if you like a little more flavor contrast, 1 cup is perfect. They needed 14 minutes in my oven; your mileage may vary. Just poke them with a toothpick, and if it doesn't come out doughy, they're done. I will be adding these to my fall recipe collection to make every year. Thanks for the great recipe!
