About this Cook
I was a food service specialist in the United States Coast Guard for 4 years, and currently a stay at home mom. I have been cooking since I was just a little girl. I love to prepare meals (and dessert!) for my two children and my boyfriend.
My favorite things to cook
I think my favorite flavor is lemon. Add lemon to anything and it's special. I have been on a bit of an Asian kick recently, but I'm a dessert person. My favorite thing to cook is sweets!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family does a traveling pot luck during the holidays. 4 stops, 4 dishes. Plenty of drinks and laughter, and photos in front of the Christmas tree. Each year my mom and I pick new recipes to share!
My cooking triumphs
At this point in the game, I consider anything my three-year-old will eat a triumph. But really, I would say that my first foray into fondant was much better than anything I could have hoped. I have been using it on cookies and such since.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, I could probably write a book about this. Cooking on a boat was pretty tragic. The most horrifying was blueberry turnovers. We hit a pretty decent storm, and instead of inside the puff pastry, I had blueberry filling on the walls, on the floor, on myself. I was in tears.

Slow Cooker Butternut Squash Soup
This recipe is alright, but I did spice it up with 2 tbsp of brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp coriander, and a pinch of both allspice and cloves. I didn't use any salt because the boullion was more than sufficient -- it kind of overpowered the rest of the flavors, honestly. The texture is on point, the veggie content is awesome, but the soup needs a little bit of TLC.

Spicy Ginger Cookies
I rolled these little babies in raw sugar before baking them for 9 minutes. They are soft in the center and crisp on the outside because of the sugar - just right! The cayenne is such a nice addition to these delicious gingerbread cookies! Try them!

Wilma's Clam Chowder
I skipped the crushed up saltines and used a whole bottle of clam juice for this recipe instead of water. I did let the soup thicken by boiling it, and I used celery seed and salt because I never keep celery salt on hand. This soup was very good, especially sprinkled with crispy bacon!
