About this Cook
I love to cook and bake and try new recipes. I've been baking since I was a little girl. My mom taught me to make cookies and then she retired from baking them! She taught me how to make the perfect pie crust and to roll sandtarts nice and thin. I'm still not able to do it quite like her though.
My favorite things to cook
Baking desserts is my specialty, but I also like to make Italian and Pennsylvania Dutch foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking Christmas cookies is a tradition. Mostly we make sandtarts, which is a several step process that works best with 2 or more people.
My cooking triumphs
I coordinated a Christmas tea for 120 people this past year. We had homemade scones (Grandma Johnson's are the best!), Devonshire Cream, Chicken salad sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, mini cheesecakes, frosted grapes, and meringue cookies. Most of the recipes were obtained from
My cooking tragedies
Well just last night I had some trouble transferring Chantel's New York Cheesecake from the pan to a box. It broke in half! Well, I decided that the cheesecake should be cut into pieces before giving it away so I used a piece of dental floss to slice it into about 15 pieces. It looked pretty much good as new!

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
My dog loves these and really enjoyed getting to eat the "cookie batter" while I was making them. I didn't have trouble with the batter being too dry, but that may be because I mixed it by hand at the end. If you knead like bread it it comes together quite nicely.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball
This recipe is always a hit when I take it to parties. People are surprised when they bite into a sweet cheeseball.

Sukhothai Pad Thai
I made this for my parents and sister one evening because I love pad thai, but they had never tried it (and are not very adventurous with new flavors). They made fun of me while I was making it, because it smelled really bad (I used fish sauce and soy sauce), but when it came time to serve it, they ate it all up! I used shrimp instead of tofu and I used lime juice instead of tamarind.
