I love this recipe as is. It's also SUPER easy to tweak. The only thing I would say (because of some of the other recommendations here) is DO NOT brown the beef first, it just ends up dry and tough. I tried quite a few different recipes that called for browning the beef first and the first time I made it with THIS recipe the beef just falls apart so soft and tender. Seriously just try it this way at least once. It's amazing.
This beef stew also does really well with mushrooms added, my husband loves mushrooms. I also add quite a bit more worcestershire because I love it. But every time I make beef stew I do this basic recipe and then add whatever I want and it always turns out great.
