About this Cook
I am a student at Camosun College in Victoria, B.C. my major is Biology, but my weekend hobby/passion is cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a real health nut. Many of my recipes fall under low fat, low calorie or high fibre. I like to develop my own recipes, many of which I will be posting sooner or later, some being quite simple and fast, others being rather time consuming and tricky.
My favorite family cooking traditions
A lot of my cooking skills originated from my mom. She started my whole passion for cooking. I accidentally have the same extra-lean hamburger recipe as my mom....I told her what I put in mine, and as it turned out, it was all the same stuff she used too:) We have a diverse culture background, so a lot of our traditions with food just involve making foods native to our origin countries (i.e. goulash, perogy)
My cooking triumphs
My very first souffle ever did not fall:)
My cooking tragedies
None since I've been smart enough to cook properly.....but when I was 6 or 7 my sister and I had this genius idea for chocolate filled pancakes.....that was a flop.

Kalamata Olive Tapenade
Delicious! I have just put this together, and as I couldn't resist, I tasted it immediately - so good! I think it will be even better after it has sat in the fridge for a bit to "meld". Following the suggestions of other users, I made the following modifications: I did not put in the blender, but rather finely chopped everything by hand, I subbed in a handful of black olives to mellow out the flavor (plus, as we are olive lovers and always have lots, I tossed in a few green olives too!) and I didn't add any additional salt. Also, as I did not have fresh parsley I added 1 tbsp of dried - seems fine! Really good, thanks for posting!

Easy Chocolate Bundt Cake Glaze
Wonderful :) Has that nice velvety texture as you pour it on, and then it dries very shiny and presentable without being crusty. And of course it tastes great! Will definitely make this again!

Monte Cristo Sandwich - the Real One
We make this as one of the many turkey reprisals that follow a large turkey dinner :) Very good, definitely not something I make often as it is super fatty, but it really is a nice indulgence around the holidays. Very simple recipe, I always find I need more batter though.
