About this Cook
Dad gave me my first cooking lesson when I was 5. He gave me a stalk of celery, a cutting board, and a knife. He cut two pieces and said, "Copy that."
My favorite things to cook
Japanese food is something I cook daily at home, but I love to bake bread, cookies, and cakes too. BBQ is also hugely fun as well as any sort of seafood.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pan-fried Pomfret with ginger and salt. Favorite dish as a kid and still a favorite dish today.
My cooking triumphs
Many
My cooking tragedies
3 full racks and 4 hours of slow cooked spare ribs burned to a crisp because I didn't pay attention to weight.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
TOOOOO SWEET when I followed the recipe exactly, and came out flat. I added more flour as did most people, doubled the baking soda and added half a tsp of baking powder, NO SALT, used salted butter instead (another try I used no salt and regular butter and it was fine), also added more oatmeal to make the dough tougher (I like a dense cookie), and replaced the nuts with toffee. Now, every time I share these with clients and friends, they ask me where I ordered them from or if I could make a batch for them.

Key Lime Pie VII
Great texture. Great color. Good flavor, except the 3 cups sweetened condensed milk made the pie really too sweet. I actually had to let it all go because it was just too sugary. I did like this recipe though, and next time I'll use 1 cup sweetened condensed milk and 2 cups unsweetened condensed milk.
