About this Cook
I'm a married Studio Artist living near Virginia Tech.
My favorite things to cook
Soup, any sort, is my favorite food to cook. It's easy, and the longer you simmer it, the better it gets. I'm also quite fond of baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a fairly meat-and-potatoes family, so I love making New England Boiled Dinner and Corned Beef and Cabbage. My stepdad introduced me to Puerto Rican cooking traditions (though I can't pronounce them for the life of me), and my husband has urged me to learn more about Italian, Indian, and Asian recipes.
My cooking triumphs
We had our first thanksgiving in our own house this year (2004), and I cooked it all (a whole turkey, a ham, and all the fixings) by myself without having to call my mother for help once.
My cooking tragedies
Thou shalt not make tuna casserole from scratch until thou dost know how to make a decent cream sauce!

Eggplant Bake
I quite enjoyed this dish. I used red onion rather than regular, and swapped the Muenster for Swiss, but it was all quite tasty. The only reason I can't give it five stars is my husband, the consummate carnivore, fussed that there was no meat in it. Maybe I'll spike it with sausage next time to make him happy.

Bacon Quiche Tarts
I halved the amount of cream cheese, used cheddar instead of Swiss, caramelized minced onion and upped the amount of egg. Still fantastic. My husband loved them.

Mushroom Chicken Piccata
I was out of lemon juice, so I substituted apple cider vinegar. This dish is insanely good!
