Special Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
Good as written, but just decadent with 1 1/2 - 2 cups butter as the shortening. We can't stop eating it!

Cracklin' Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
This was ok... but it needs something. I admit I was worried putting the batter into our big cast iron skillet (how long am I going to be cleaning this?) but it came out perfect without sticking at all. The taste is pretty bland. I used fresh side pork; maybe bacon would be a better choice. Thanks so much for the Southern recipe - we really enjoy old/regional recipes.

Bierrocks I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
We really enjoyed these, especially because they have such great potential as homemade "convenience food." I used a little less cabbage than what was called for and substituted grated cheddar for the American (went heavy on it too). I also added about a tsp of pepper to the filling. It still needs just a little tweaking... but thanks for the inspiration!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
For the record, I'm not a big chocolate lover. But I looved this recipe - should have called them "Butter Brownies." My husband, on the other hand, didn't like them at all. Not fudgy enough for him, like cake as others have said. So to balance us out I'll give it 4 stars. (We did not make the frosting.)

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
We enjoyed this dressing even though it does not taste like Hidden Valley (still on the hunt for the perfect copy). I substituted homemade cultured kefir for the sour cream - and I'm glad I did because it would have been too thick with the cream. Next time we will try it with homemade mayonnaise as well.

Spiced Butternut Squash Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2004
I wouldn't say "filled with flavor" exactly, as they were a little bland. But a good way to sneak squash into a different kind of dish. We baked our squash like other reviewers recommended.
