Autumn Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
I don't think I'm going to brown the meat beforehand next time, it seems like an unecessary step. Because of other reviews I added about 4 tablespoons of flour and I still wouldn't call it stew and I did add 2 bullion cubes to give it a beefier flavor but my husband went back for seconds!

Slow-Cooked Ham 'N' Broccoli

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
It took a lot longer than 2 hours to cook, more like 4-6. But my husband loved it and asked me to make it again.

Kheer (Rice Pudding)

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2006
I liked this alot, but it cooked up too thick for my taste so I stirred in some extra milk at the end to thin it out. I didn't have rosewater so I stirred in a couple tablespoons of honey to give it a flowery flavor.

Portabella Nirvana

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2006
I was really excited about this recipe, but it came out really bland in my opinion. Next time I'll probably try marinating the mushrooms in lemon/garlic, with more crabmeat (not the canned stuff either) and less crackers. And maybe find a remoulade to serve along with it.

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2006
More adult than your average chocolate chip cookie. My husband and I love java flavored anything so I add extra instant coffee. And it's easier than the scam recipe.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
I usually use 1 cup chocolate soy milk and honey peanut butter. Definately freeze the banana before making the smoothie.

Great, even my husband liked it and he doesn't usually eat avocado in anything but guacamole.

Wild Rice Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2005
This recipe is pretty foolproof, I added 3 cloves of garlic, carrots, and corn. I omitted the evaporated milk and just used regular milk. My husband loved it and I finally found a recipe to use up all the venison sausage we're given in the fall.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2005
My husband and I both liked it but I doubled the cayenne pepper and the garam masala. And my husband said he would never eat indian food and he went back for seconds.

Southern Fried Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2005
This was too greasy for my taste (not a fan of fried anything), but my husband is making it again tonight and reducing the oil to 1 T per another review. He uses maple cured bacon and omit's the sugar altogether.

Malaysian Beef Rendang

Reviewed: May 14, 2005
My husband (the picky eater) thought it tasted "weird" but I loved it. My grocery store carries tubes of pureed lemon grass, ginger, and garlic where the fresh herbs are located. But I didn't get the right chile peppers so it wasn't as spicy as it could have been. Will definately make again...he can have PB&J. ;-)

Buttermilk Honey Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2005
Turned out great in my machine. I checked the doughball and it was too wet and I probably added in a cup of flour. The loaf was picture perfect and the bread was moist and airy.

Easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2004
Too sweet. I'll leave out the vanilla all together next time and double the peppermint. The chips beat up my automatic ice cream maker so next time I guess I can try and grate the chocolate.

Strawberry Oatmeal Cream Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2004
Didn't like it at all. Strawberries just don't cook well and the cream cheese melted into the dough and I couldn't taste it.

Big Joe's Venison Steak in Chestnut Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2004
This turned out great! My husband raved about it, he even ate the strained carrots and onions as a side. I burnt the chestnuts so I left them out and could not find Madeira wine in time, so I substituted 3T sherry + 1T brandy.
