Simple Roasted Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
Perfect. I adjusted it one time with a few simple things: toss it a few times during roasting, last few minutes sprinkle with parmesan cheese and stick under broiler. This gives it a nice caramelized glaze & flavor.

Green Beans with Cherry Tomatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
We loved this! I did think the sugar was completely unnecessary so I left it out and everything tasted great. My only complaint is that it was too buttery. Next time I will reduce the butter by 1-2 Tbsp. I will definitely be making this again.

Zesty Carrots

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2013
I am a little surprised at the rave reviews. I think maybe the paprika was too overpowering for me. It was definitely a good start but I will keep looking for other horseradish/carrot recipes.

Maple Baked Pork Loin Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2013
I am rating it 5 stars based on my own concoction and not the recipe as-is, for those who are nit-picky about that. I took suggestions from other reviewers and used barbecue sauce instead of ketchup. I thought it would miss some vinegar to cut the syrup so I also added a little mustard. As an afterthought I threw in some cinnamon. Wow! I also didn't want to worry about basting and watching it so I threw it in the crockpot early in the day and cooked it on high for about 6 hours. Not only did it taste fantastic but it was soft enough to shred! I had never had a pork loin do that before (unlike shoulder or pork butt, which shred easily) and was pleasantly surprised. I used the leftovers for burritos the next day. I will definitely make this again.

Asian Glazed Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
Best chicken marinade, we loved it! I followed suggestions from other users and doubled the sauce (glad I did, it was delicious!) I did alter slightly, using MUCH less sesame oil (mine is extremely powerful so I only added 1-2 tsp.) and also adding some about 2 tsp. of cumin for some smoky flavor. Mostly I found I could eyeball the measurements and adjust them to taste. Also made coconut rice as others suggested-- when cooking rice substitute some of the water for coconut milk, add salt, lime juice & cilantro. Will definitely be making this again!

Eat Michigan Salad

It seems to simple but it is actually a fabulous salad! The dressing is the perfect compliment. I followed the recipe exactly and I wouldn't change a thing!

Authentic Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2012
This was an awesome recipe. (I didn't have whipping cream so I substituted with greek yogurt and it made the final result slightly too tangy, so next time I'll buy the cream in advance.) Very time-consuming, like most Indian food, but well worth it!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2012
Perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. Another reviewer mentioned it wasn't very thick but I think if you prepare the roux properly (butter, milk & flour) as per the instructions then it is extremely thick and perfect! At the advice of other reviewers we added some corn and next time I might add other vegetables...the choices are endless! I also wanted to add that one of my kids usually won't eat soups because he doesn't like the onions but somehow the onions in this soup were completely untraceable and he ate every bite! A winner in my book.

Pillow-Soft Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2012
I'm rating this 4 stars because I did alter the recipe a bit, according to comments from other reviewers about the lack of taste. I slightly increased the salt and sugar according to taste and then in place of the egg I substituted 1 Tbsp. flax seed + 3 Tbsp water. The flax seed offered a wonderful rich earthy flavor. I also used butter flavored shortening in the recipe. These were quick, easy, and (as promised) pillow soft! Will definitely make these again!

Blueberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
This sauce was perfect! I did alter it a bit with some substitutions. I didn't have orange juice but did have lime juice so I used 1 cup of that instead. I also used vanilla instead of almond extract. I thought the sour lime juice blended perfectly with the tartness of the blueberries and the added vanilla took the edge off from being too tart. I am excited to try this again with other juices! Pomegranate, raspberry, grape...the possibilities are endless!

Toll House® White Chip Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
Perfect! I don't change a thing when I make them and they always go really fast. I've never been able to make 60 like the recipe says (I think they'd have to be REALLY small to make that work) but the recipe is still awesome. Definitely remember to eat one hot out the oven they are fabulous!

Pumpkin Crunch Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
I shouldn't rate this so high since I changed the recipe up so much but since it was the basis I think it deserves 5 stars. Most of my changes came from other reviews: liberal with the amount of pumpkin; reduce eggs to only 3; reduce sugar to under 1 cup; use spice cake mix; blend cake mix, nuts & melted butter all together in crumb mixture and then crumble over pumpkin mix; cover with foil for 45 min. then remove foil for last 20-25. Phew! That's a lot of changes! But totally worth it. I'm already looking forward to sneaking some for breakfast.

Baked Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
These were great! I am so grateful another user posted about using the cooling rack inside the oven...my nuggets were perfectly crispy! I was also in a hurry and found that soaking the chicken in the butter mixture (I made mine half butter half egg) and then coating them with breadcrumbs by shaking in a gallon Ziploc bag worked beautifully. These are definitely going in my recipe book.

Guyanese Lime Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2011
These cookies are perfection. I didn't have problems with them being hard, as other reviewers started. I'm thinking they just baked them too long? They don't change color much so if you "burned" them they probably wouldn't turn brown, just hard. When people asked what they were I just said "a kind of lime snickerdoodle" and they were a huge hit. The only change I made was to add about 1/2 tsp. vanilla to the mix. Everything else was perfect and I can't wait to make them again! Thanks for the recipe!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
SO pleased with this recipe. I wanted cookies but only had frozen butter so I looked for a recipe using melted butter and this was perfect! I followed it exactly except for one hiccup... accidentally used 2 sticks (1 c.) butter instead of 3/4 c. but I just increased the flour by 1/2 c. and they turned out perfectly! There was no need to refrigerate as other reviews suggested. I did increase the temp. to 335 degrees and average bake time was about 14 minutes. Perfection! They are crisp at the edges and soft in the middle...this may become my new go-to choc. chip cookie recipe!

Savory Crescent Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
This was the best-looking recipe on the site, although I was worried about all the comments saying the chicken filling wasn't savory enough. So I erred on the side of caution and added a lot of seasonings: garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, cumin. I was afraid it would be too much, but it wasn't! I also wanted to make more so I rolled up a small teaspoon of filling in individual rolls instead of combining 2 rolls together. A pack of crescent rolls made 8 puffs. I also accidentally bought a pack of the "golden layer" rolls and was amazed that they actually peel apart so I could fill them and seal them back up together! They worked just as well as the crescent rolls. Quick and easy and the whole family loved them.

Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2011
As the recipe stands I'll give it 3 stars...but with some improvements it could be 5 stars!!! Reduce the chili powder (ALL you could taste was chili powder) by at least half and increase the other seasonings according to taste--anywhere from 3/4 tsp. to 1 tsp. Another reviewer suggested reducing the water but I would discourage that. Even with 1 1/2 c. water this sauce was fairly thick and became even more thick as it cooked in the oven. My husband RAVED about this sauce and declared that every Sunday should be Enchilada Day--and all thanks to the sauce!

Beef Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2011
Such a great and easy way to create a wonderful meal! Like other reviewers, instead of the dry sauce mix I used enchilada sauce-- the "Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce" recipe from this site, I highly recommend it! My family loved it (although, we will probably be using corn tortillas next time) and we decided Sunday will be our regular Enchilada Day!

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2011
I expected the Dijon to add a nice flavor but I found it too overpowering. I think I would try again without the Dijon and just let the more traditional lemon-garlic flavors do their job.

Honey Wheat Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
PERFECT! I have tried more recipes than I can count and I have FINALLY found a soft wheat bread that doesn't weigh a ton and instead is actually light and airy! Thank you so much for the recipe.
