I have been using this recipe for years now. My kids like buttermilk biscuits; so I substitue 1/2 cup of milk with buttermilk and add a teaspoon of baking soda. I also split the shortening in half with butter and add 1/2 tablespoon of extra baling powder.
To get the most out of this recipe, do two things. First, sift all your dry ingrediants together. Flour needs to be sift as it gets compacted over time in those flour bags. Second, cut in the shorting/butter well. I mean REALLY well. Do those two things and your biscuits will pop!
