Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2013
I had previously thought the "banana banana bread" was the best banana bread recipe on allrecipes. WRONG! This one is even more moist and more banana-y tasting. It's a *very* wet batter. I made it as written except I put it in 3 loaf pans rather than 4. Because of that I had a little extra cinnamon sugar mixture so I sprinkled that on all 3 loaves prior to baking. It took a full 2 hours to bake, but it came out delicious. It doesn't rise as much as other banana breads I've made, but I attribute that to the moist and dense texture. I kept one loaf out to eat and froze 2 loaves and when I defrosted them they were fantastic, too. This recipe is a keeper!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2013
You know, I absolutely love the Italian beef sandwiches you get in Chicago. This was just OK. I wasn't crazy about it. The texture of the meat was a bit spongey and tasted a little bland. I don't think you can get the same melt in your mouth texture and deep flavor results in a crockpot that Chicago Italian beef places get in their ovens. It's also hard to duplicate the flavor of the giardiniera and find the right kind of bread. I think this is just one of those things you have to go to Chicago for.

Fool proof recipe. I made it exactly as written and baked it exactly as instructed. Came out perfect. Had a nice crunchy top, just as promised. This recipe is a keeper.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
Absolutely amazing recipe!! I used skinless, boneless thighs so cooked slightly less time than recipe called for. The sauce was to die for. The only drawback is that my glass baking dish was covered with burnt on sugary sauce and it was a pain to clean. Maybe use an old pan that you don't care about too much for this recipe.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
Delicious and quick but needed just a *teeny* bit more flavoring so I added lemon pepper and Tony Chachere creole seasoning prior to putting in the oven. Also I did not have a plastic bag big enough so I just put the cauliflower in the baking dish and then sprinkled on garlic, olive oil and seasonings and then tossed it all up in the pan. Very easy!

Lemon Lush

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2013
I really liked this. It reminded me of a lemon cream pie. I halved the ingredients and put it in a square glass dish instead of a rectangular dish. I think it could also be made in a round pie pan and cut into wedges and served that way, too. I made it as is and loved the taste, but I can see how it could be made better with a few changes. I would keep the crust the same (it was buttery and crunchy and I loved it) but add some lemon zest to the cream cheese mixture, some lemon juice to the pudding layer and top with real whipped cream instead of Cool Whip.

Amish White Bread

Really easy and fun bread to make. Perfect for the first time bread maker! Tastes great, too. I will definitely be using this dough for cinnamon rolls.

Honey Bear Smoothie

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2013
I made it as written except reduced the cinnamon to 1 tbsp. It was really strong so I can't imagine what 2 tbsps would be like. The consistency is very thin so if you want a thicker smoothie you should reduce the almond milk or add some ice cubes or an additional frozen banana to the blender.

Grilled Pineapple

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
Sweet, juicy and delectable. What a surprise! I did not think I'd like this but I loved it. I added 3 dashes ghost pepper sauce and a little extra honey. I did not core and cut in half inch slices rather than inch slices. I don't think it matters much because it would have been delicious either way. What a unique side to serve, like I did, with the Key West chicken and black bean and corn salad II from this site. Very tropical!

Black Bean and Corn Salad II

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
This salad was so tangy and yummy. I put in extra corn. Definitely use the cilantro. It could easily be a meal by itself, but I served it with the Key West chicken and grilled pineapple recipes from this site.

I can't believe how juicy this chicken came out. Made exactly as written and was very flavorful. Served along side grilled pineapple and Black Bean and Corn Salad II, both recipes from this site. Gorgeous, colorful, healthy meal.

Marinated Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2013
These were delicious! They took slightly longer to cook than suggested, but they were still tender and juicy and delectable. I also made Paula Deen's cheese grits and broccoli rabe with garlic and cannellini beans and they both went perfectly with the shrimp. The shrimp were flavorful on their own but I jazzed them up a bit by serving with a sprinkle of Emeril's Essence and a wedge of lemon.

Indonesian Satay

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
Really good chicken recipe! I used my indoor grill pan because it was raining outside. Chicken came out perfectly juicy and not dry at all. Loved the marinade. The peanut dipping sauce was good, but I made it even better by the addition of some Sriracha.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2013
I followed the recipe exactly - used room temp ingredients, greased the sides of the pan, didn't overmix, didn't touch oven door - and it still had a massive crack on top. Looked like an earthquake fissure. However, it was still yummy. I like a slightly creamier cheesecake so taking off one star for that (and the crack). I would still make this again. I might bake it at 325 rather than 350. Also, I made a delicious raspberry sauce for it and the tart sauce went perfectly with the rich cheesecake.

Wazzu Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
This is a good chili recipe. One of my top 3 favorites, for sure. Has a hint of sweetness possibly from the beer. Really is better the second day. I like to top mine with shredded cheese, diced onions and sour cream.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2013
I have made banana bread many times, but never pumpkin bread. Wow, what have I been missing? This was delicious! Moist, flavorful, not too sweet...almost like a pumpkin flavored pound cake. My favorite are the end pieces. This recipe was extremely quick and easy to assemble. The only thing was that it required a lot longer baking than 50 minutes. I baked 3 loaves at once and it took about 90 minutes in my oven (even turned it up to 375 for the last 30 minutes). I kept checking every 10 minutes until the knife pulled out clean. Will make again and even wrap and give away.

D's Famous Salsa

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
I think I made this in less than 10 minutes. It could not be quicker or easier and has a nice freshness due to the onions, garlic and cilantro that you won't find in jarred salsas. I add a bit of Dave's Ghost Pepper sauce to get it up to the heat level I like.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2013
These were so delicious and the preparation could not be easier. The only way you could mess up this recipe is if you didn't watch them in the oven and let them burn. Some of the salty, crispy outer leaves tasted like popcorn to me. I let them get nice and caramelized and they were fork tender after about 45 minutes.

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2012
Yet another winner from this site. Extremely delicious, filling and healthy (if you use the parmigiana sparingly) and easy to make. I would say it took a good hour of simmering after adding all the vegetables. Don't skip the little drizzle of olive oil in the bowl before serving. It really adds some richness to the broth.

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
This is one of my favorite soup recipes from this site. The curry is not overpowering at all but is very subtle in the final product. It's hearty, filling, inexpensive and easy to make. What's not to love?
