Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: May 22, 2014
I was so skeptical about this recipe. I'd never had chicken and dumplings before and the ingredients didn't sound all that impressive. I made it exactly as written, except I put the biscuit dough in about 2.5 hours prior to serving, rather than 30 minutes. Total cooking time was 6 hours. It was absolutely delicious. The chicken was so tender and infused with so much flavor and the dumplings came out perfectly. They tasted like biscuits that you sop up gravy with, except they are infused with the gravy flavor. This recipe is going in my regular rotation.

Grilled Asparagus

Reviewed: May 21, 2014
This is my favorite way to eat asparagus. Don't cover up that delicious flavor with any sauces or seasonings. Just a simple prep, grill (I use a grill pan), eat. Done.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: May 7, 2014
Ok, a 5 year old kid could make this recipe (with a pop top can of soup). It's that easy. I used a 4 lb roast and cooked on 9 hours at low and then kept it on warm for another hour. It comes out really tasty and falls apart with a fork. The gravy is thin and more like a "jus" so you may want to thicken it up with some cornstarch. I didn't and it was just a little runny, but I like it that way. There is no need for any additional seasoning. It was nice and salty and flavorful.

Tzatziki Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2014
The taste was okay, but blending the cucumber in a food processor gave the sauce a really gross chunky texture. I also don't know why the recipe calls for dicing the cucumber and then says to process it in a food processor. I would not make this recipe again. The ones with shredded cucumber are much better.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2014
These looked beautiful, but the flavor just wasn't there. The blueberries I used were nice and sweet, but I was hoping for more of a sweet, cakey batter and it just tasted really bland to me.

Brazilian Black Bean Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2014
This is not a recipe I would make again. It was beautiful to look at and ok tasting for one meal, but I ended up throwing the leftovers away. There was just too much sweetness with the mango and sweet potato and not enough complexity of flavors. It needs more spices and would also probably be better without the meat, which doesn't add much flavor and takes away from the freshness of all the veggies.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2014
These are very good cookies. I actually split the recipe in half and it made around 32 cookies. More than enough for me. I shaped half the dough into a log and covered it first in waxed paper and then in foil and chilled it (you can even freeze it at this point). When ready to bake I sliced into half inch rounds and baked for 11 minutes. This makes the perfectly soft, thick, chewy cookie. The only complaint I would have is that the pudding lends an almost store bought quality to the taste of these cookies. Maybe it's the artificial flavor in the vanilla pudding. I would probably not make them again based on this. I prefer more of a pure and natural flavor.

Healing Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2014
This is one of the easiest soups to make and it's one of my favorites. It's very tangy and fresh tasting. The veggies are not mushy as long as you don't overcook. I stop cooking when they are still nice and firm with just a little "bite" to them. I think you have to like Bloody Marys, tomato juice or V8 to enjoy this soup because it does have a lot of zing from the tomatoes and other veggies, but if you are a huge fan like me you will love it. As with any recipe here, only add salt to taste. I never trust another person's salt threshold.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
So amazing. Made exactly as directed, no substitutes. It does take a lot of time to make, but the effort is worth it. I froze half of it and when I thawed it and reheated it later it was just as good, if not better! This recipe is a real winner. One of my faves from the site.

Mom's Stovetop Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
OMG these were so ridiculous! One of the best, if not the best, recipes I've ever made off allrecipes.com. It takes forever to boil out the water, but stay with it. As the water evaporates it condenses and both adds flavor to the ribs and tenderizes them. The meat was FULL of flavor and just melt in your mouth, fall off the bone tender. Amazing. I can't wait to try this with chicken, too. 10 stars!!

Supreme Strawberry Topping

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
Really tasty fruit topping. I made it as directed, except I just used a potato masher in the saucepan to get it to the consistency I wanted. It reminded me a bit of freezer jam, if you've ever had that. If I wanted to make a more elegant presentation, I would probably strain it, but it was great as is. I put it over cheesecake, but I think it'd also be perfect over pancake or waffles since it's not too sweet and has a fresh fruit taste.

Italian Cream Cheese and Ricotta Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2013
Ok mine cracked like the San Andreas fault, but I did not care. It was delicious!! Best and easiest cheesecake I ever made. I did not miss the graham cracker crust at all. The cake was lighter then NY style cheesecake and not as crumbly. Had a delicious flavor. Not exactly like my Italian grandma used to make (I think she used all ricotta) but still the best cheesecake I've ever had.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2013
Very dense and moist like pound cake but less bready than banana bread. I've made them a few times following the recipe exactly and also with K. Lynn's alterations. Delicious both ways.

World's Best Lasagna

This was pretty much the best lasagna I've ever had. My husband used an expletive when he ate it. "This is really ****ing good." He made the sauce and I assembled it so it was a joint effort.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2013
These came out very thick and looked like they were going to be really heavy gut bombs, but they were very light and fluffy with a nice spongy texture and great flavor. Couldn't have been quicker and easier to make, either. I love them.

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2013
This was so easy and good! I could not stop eating at it, even as I was putting the leftovers away. I added quit a bit of salt and pepper since many of the veggies in the dish don't have a lot of flavor on their own. Everything caramelized nicely and cooked at a similar pace. The red peppers and onions got a little crispy around the edges and the squash and potatoes were deliciously soft and sweet. Fave way to cook veggies in the fall/winter. The fresh herbs added a very nice touch. 5 stars!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2013
I had previously thought the "banana banana bread" was the best banana bread recipe on allrecipes. WRONG! This one is even more moist and more banana-y tasting. It's a *very* wet batter. I made it as written except I put it in 3 loaf pans rather than 4. Because of that I had a little extra cinnamon sugar mixture so I sprinkled that on all 3 loaves prior to baking. It took a full 2 hours to bake, but it came out delicious. It doesn't rise as much as other banana breads I've made, but I attribute that to the moist and dense texture. I kept one loaf out to eat and froze 2 loaves and when I defrosted them they were fantastic, too. This recipe is a keeper!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2013
You know, I absolutely love the Italian beef sandwiches you get in Chicago. This was just OK. I wasn't crazy about it. The texture of the meat was a bit spongey and tasted a little bland. I don't think you can get the same melt in your mouth texture and deep flavor results in a crockpot that Chicago Italian beef places get in their ovens. It's also hard to duplicate the flavor of the giardiniera and find the right kind of bread. I think this is just one of those things you have to go to Chicago for.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
Absolutely amazing recipe!! I used skinless, boneless thighs so cooked slightly less time than recipe called for. The sauce was to die for. The only drawback is that my glass baking dish was covered with burnt on sugary sauce and it was a pain to clean. Maybe use an old pan that you don't care about too much for this recipe.
