I started cooking dinners when I was twelve (my first dish was stuffed cabbage rolls). When I found out how much people liked it, I started to enjoy cooking for myself. Fifteen years later I still enjoy cooking even though I have to now cook for my two picky children.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Seven years ago my grandmother had a stroke on Thanksgiving and my mother had to leave to go to the hospital to be with her. I ended up taking over the cooking. It didn't turn out so well because turkeys are darn hard! It was dry (and I think a little underdone). The next year I begged to be given a second chance and it started a new tradition. I have been planning and cooking Thanksgiving dinner by myself since. Now Thanksgiving has a little more adventurous, but more importantly I get to use the family as guinea pigs every year. (And they love it!)
My cooking tragedies
Seven years ago I tried to make a chicken dish that cooked in apple juice. All I had was baby apple juice, so I used it. It overflowed while cooking, and the smell was horriable!! Needless to say we had the side dishes for dinner.
