I don't like cloves so I substituted with ginger, and I baked mine for less time as the first dozen burned. I live at a high altitude and I think that may have been my issue. Also, it doesn't say whether to grease the cookie sheets prior to baking. DON'T grease them, you can use parchment if you wish, or a well seasoned sheet works just fine. I also found if you make the icing a bit thicker you can use a spoon right after they come out of the oven and it melts beautifully over the whole cookie without leaving too much icing behind.
