I am more in the kitchen when local produce is more abundant. Since I live alone I just put together whatever is quick and a taste for it at the moment. When company comes is when I like to produce a 5 course meal. Other than that I wing it. Not fussy of what I fix for myself, but do try to remember what my grown kids like as well as the hungarian dishes my brother never gets at home. the Grandbabies get something special all the time.
My favorite things to cook
I love to improvise with different ingredients for stir fry, use oriental sauces, and even make my own.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My whole family on my fathers side loves the hungarian dishes they use to remember. Love to bake the swedish and norweign pastries and breads. From my mothers side of the family.
My cooking triumphs
When I cooked a 4 course Authentic Hungarian family dinner. And much to my surprise my family marveled of how I duplicated the meal my grandmother taught me. Watching her cook in the kitchen was a treat for me because kids were not allowed. She never measured anything, it was a pinch of salt, a handful of flower, and mixed her bread with her hands (no plastic gloves)
My cooking tragedies
Trying to impress my fiances family and had roasted a turkey. After 3-4 hrs of picking at plates of crackers topped with various veggies, and other things to munch on, the turkey was finally done, I thought! With a red face the turkey was still raw. So I ran up to KFC and picked up a family sized meals pronto. Being only 20 yrs old and not able to cook much (my mother only let me peel potatoes and set the table). This particular time was my time to shine in the kitchen. SURE How embarrassing
