Great Grandma Johns' Pasties

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2005
This is very good, and similar to my husband's grandmother's recipie. As my family got larger, i had to find shortcuts because time would not allow. If i am short on time, i use the refrigerator pie crusts and frozen hash browns and i always add a little chopped up carrots. My kids devour them w/ground beef so if using that, brown and drain first. Thanks for the tip w/the water at the end, i never used that and it certainly makes them moist and w/gravy inside! Serve w/gravy or (for the younger ones) catsup on the side! Yum! If you make them smaller, bite or two size, they make a great appetizer too!

Divine Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2005
Very good. I followed advise from others and only used one green pepper instead of 2. I used half ground beef, half italian sausage. Threw about three tablespoons sundried tomatoes too and a clove or two more garlic and 2 tablespoons sugar. Put in slow cooker 6 hours on high. Very good, this one is a keeper! Thank you!

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2005
yum. Between cook and prep it was almost two hours and I work so I cooked them the one hour the night before, put them in the fridge, then put them back in the oven the next night w/the sauce for the other half hour. Daaa lish. Kids loved them, served w/white rice and green beans! This one is a keeper.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2005
I give this 5 stars, once I made a few changes. I used two pounds of beef, and cut it up into 1 inch slices (kids like smaller bites) when it was still partly frozen. I substituted 2 cans beef broth and 1 can diced tomatoes w/oregeno and basil and about 6 tablespoons teriaki sauce. No onion soup mix, I added a package of stew mix instead. (had to work with what was on hand) One huge potatoe peeled and cut up seemed to be enough and all i could fit in the crockpot. At the end, I dumped it all in a double dutch pot, threw in some frozen peas and made dumplings on top of the stove, which thickened it up (dumplings from bisquick box recipie) and also, is a favorite of my kids. yum, my house smelled so good when I came home!

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2005
This was good, but it did not taste like traditional Irish soda bread. I believe due to famine in Ireland, that butter and eggs were not even available, hence the traditional Irish Soda bread tasted more like a scone. This bread was good though, very moist, like a moist raisin cake . (i added raisins)

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2005
Da lish! Changed it a bit to add taste. I used some diced tomatoes and some salsa in place of whole tomatoes. Added garlic. I bought from Safeway deli, homemade tomatoe w/basil bisque. I used minute rice instead of regular to cut down time simmering from 15 min to about 5 minutes (made this on a weeknight). Next time, think I will use half ground beef half italian sausage. It was yummy, a keeper for sure.
