Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2013
This was my first time making homemade corn dogs and it's a lot of fun and not as much trouble as I thought. The batter is delicious and tastes better than the frozen kind (I left out the pepper because I don't care too much for pepper in certain foods). I'm a vegetarian so it's been a long time since I had one at the fairgrounds, but my corn dogs made with Morningstar Farm veggie dogs came out perfectly and tasted like I remember them. Will definitely place this in my permanent recipe box. Thanks!

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2013
Followed this recipe to the T, but thought it was too thick at the end. My son loved it and he said it didn't sound good, but he raved about it and wants me to make it again. I complained about it being too thick, but he wants me to cook it that way again. However, I'm going to decrease the flour some and I don't think I used as much water as I should have to "cover" the vegetables. I wish there had been an exact amount listed, but I will increase it next time. I will also buy some clam juice for more clam flavor. But this is a great base to spring from. Thanks!

Leek and Cheese Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2013
Excellent quiche recipe that can be modified for any ingredient you'd like to include. The only things I did differently were to add a little nutmeg to the cream/egg mixture, didn't put the tomatoes on top because I don't like baked tomatoes, and I used a homemade pie crust that wasn't frozen. This led to the edges being burned during the 15-min. first heating, so I will either freeze the crust in a pan next time, or play around with the temps. Thank you so much!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2013
Best bread recipe I've ever tried. Make two loaves, or one loaf and rolls or buns, every week. I haven't made sandwiches with store bought bread for months and don't plan to. This bread makes every sandwich I make special and delicious. On weekend morning I put some pats of butter on a slice and bake it for 10 mins., then spread some grape jelly on it and eat it with my coffee. Will be no more settling for me.

Best Oven Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2013
Oh, my goodness. This is one of the most delicious baked french toast recipes I've ever had. I first made it for Christmas last year, and used ordinary, cheap sandwich bread with the crusts on and it was OK. But now I buy the good quality farmhouse bread and cut the crusts off. I add more brown sugar to the bottom of the dish, too so when I cut it and flip it over on the plate, it's buttery and sweet. Served with grits and breakfast meat this is one of our favorite meals. Oh, and I don't refrigerate over night either and it's still great. I will for this year's Christmas morning meal. Thanks!

Crab Quiche

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2013
Wonderful base recipe for quiche. I make my own pie crusts, so I didn't buy one from the store. And I don't like fake crab so I used real. Other than these minor changes, I followed the recipe and it came out perfect. I like the instruction about cooking it and then turning off and letting it set up in the warm oven. I do this with cheesecakes and it works out great. My son who likes fish and salmon loaf/croquettes tried the quich but didn't like it, but my husband and I loved it. Thanks!

Chocolate Fudge Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2013
My husband made this to ice a dark chocolate cake, and the icing has a wonderful milk chocolate taste, but it wasn't a stiff icing like we had hoped. It was not exactly runny, but a creamy consistency. Not sure if I would make this again.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2013
One of the best Alfredo sauces we've found. I followed the recipe exactly, except for adding the parsley at the end because I didn't have any on hand and I like my Alfredo sauces with just the cream, butter, and cheese. Thanks!

French Leek Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
One of our favorite recipes from Allrecipes. Whenever I make pie crust for dessert pies, I will make extra so I can fit this dish into our menu plan. It is simple, rich, and delicious. My husband loves it. Since it's so decadent, we pair it with a simple salad with a tart vinaigrette dressing.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2012
I prefer to make my own dressings rather than buy the artificial-tasting ones from the grocery stores. And why not? They're so simple to make. This delicious dressing recipe is light with just the right amount of tartness and flavor. I use this on a simple salad I prepare with the rich French Leek Pie recipe at AR. Thanks for this great recipe!

Great Grandpa's Garlic Pickles

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2012
I've had a jar of dills sitting around for a while and have wanted to try this recipe for a while, so last night I made these pickles. When I made lunch I remembered them in the fridge and ate some with my meal. At first they just seemed good, but then I couldn't stop eating them! They are delicious and I'm going to make some for gifts this Christmas. Thank you for this wonderful sweet and spicy pickle recipe!

Chinese Cabbage Salad I

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
Delicious! and simpler than another similar slaw recipe I have. The only thing I did differently is use sesame seeds since I had no cashews and toasted them and the ramen noodles in a frying pan on the stove instead of the oven. Thought I could control the toasting this way. I also added a T of sesame oil since I love the flavor it imparts in dishes. Thank you!

Honey Mustard Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2012
This dressing is fantastic! The only things I did differently was to mix some Grey Poupon course ground mustard in with the Dijon mustard, and I didn't add the lemon because I didn't have one. I prefer to make freshly prepared salad dressings and not eat the chemical-ladened dressings at the store. This is a keeper!

Cheesy Ranch Potato Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
This simple potato dish turned out way better than I had hoped. I'm choosey about my Ranch dressing, so I picked the brand I like best: O'Charley's. I did use the entire 16 oz. of the dressing in the casserole and I'm glad I did. It was rich and creamy mixed in with the melted cheese. Thanks for this great side dish that my husband and I really enjoyed! Oh, and I didn't think the butter made the dish greasy, although the creaminess of the melted cheese and dressing would probably mean you could leave it out altogether.

Cajun Crab Cakes (No Breadcrumbs)

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2012
So flavorful with all the spices and you can taste the crab because of the lack of breadcrumbs that are so much a part of other crab cake recipes. I broiled mine and they were light and tasty. I'll try frying and baking in the future just to see what a difference it makes. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

Pasta Shells with Portobello Mushrooms and Asparagus in Boursin Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2012
We followed this recipe to a T and we did not care for it. I make homemade alfredo and was expecting this to be creamy and saucy, but it was bland and dry. What a waste of boursin cheese.

Blackberry Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
Very delicious yet simple recipe for blackberry pie. The blackberry seeds were a little crunchy; not sure what can be done about this unless the blackberries, flour, and sugar are cooked a little beforehand on the stove to soften them up some.

Speedy Oven Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2011
Fudge intimidates me, but I mastered this one. Cooked according to instructions and it came out perfectly. Poured it into a buttered 11x7 dish and it cuts beautifully. I forgot to add the vanilla, but it's still tasty. Thanks for the recipe. It's a keeper!
