I love to cook and bake- I have loved it since I was a child! I now have three young children of my own, and I often dream about taking a professional cooking course someday; perhaps when I have more time to pursue my dreams. For now, I learn tips and tricks from the Internet, as well as from a variety of cooking shows on the Food channel. I LOVE cooking shows! I really enjoy the creativity and the gratification that comes with cooking; it is a wonderful creative outlet, and you have a finished product within a few minutes to a few hours! I believe in delicious homemade food made with high-quality fresh ingredients and of course, with lots of love! I think cooking a delicious, homemade, meal for someone is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
My favorite things to cook
I can't think of a single thing I don't love to cook. I love making homemade soups and bisques. I love to cook roasts, chicken, potatoes, salads, steaks, enchiladas, pasta, ribs, shepherd's pie, Salmon, and Thai food. I love to make homemade ice cream. My children LOVE pancakes - so I make crepes, buttermilk pancakes, and also belgian waffles and they go CRAZY with excitement - so of course I love it too! Really, if I know my family will love it, then I enjoy making it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad has perfected Norwegian Potato Lefse, and he has passed his recipe and knowledge on to me. He makes it every Christmas, and I am going to try to start making it also.
My cooking triumphs
Christmas dinner. I make roast turkey with homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, broccoli salad, homemade sweet rolls, butternut squash bisque, pie - the works!
My cooking tragedies
As a young woman with no children, I once tried putting my favorite peanut-chicken type dish in a crock pot to bring to my work for our 'potluck', because I wanted to share how delicious it was with others. Well, it obviously wasn't meant to be kept warm all morning because when lunchtime came it was really really terrible. Horrible, in fact. I was mortified and embarrassed at how foolish it was of me to bring this dish in a crock-pot!! It was barely touched!! Lesson learned!!
