I am the Supervisor/Manager of a Jail Kitchen. I enjoy cooking, shopping, ordering, scheduling and event planning for our establishment. I enjoy exploring a variety of recipes that are both nutritious and tastes good.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy several genres of cooking, but must say Mexican is my favorite. I also adore southern (home) cooking, along with baking and grilling. Greek cooking (mostly pasta dishes), runs a very close third!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family likes to cook for holidays and birthdays. If we aren't grilling outdoors, we are baking or frying something! We always get together for Christmas, each one bringing their favorite dish for a "pot-luck" dinner. There is always laughter, music and wonderful memories created around our "Christmas table."
My cooking triumphs
When I came to work here, I feared being able to feed a large number on my cooking experience. Not only have I conquered that fear and learned to add my personal tastes and character to several dishes. I get a "thumbs up" where it counts, and that's all that matters.
My cooking tragedies
When I first began cooking, I invited family and friends over for some "home cooked fried chicken." It was a catastrophe! The chicken was all lightly brown and crunchy on the outside, but pink and undone inside!! I was horrified. Needless to say, I have learned several lessons in cooking with chicken.
It's true...."it's what's on the inside counts."
