Sweetened Condensed Milk

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
First: I don't buy the expensive SCM, so this isn't that big of a money saver (b/c instant milk ain't cheap). Second comment: It's a good bit thinner consistency than canned SCM, but it worked just as well in my Cafe Latte. Third: Great for saving calories b/c Splenda can be substituted for much (if not all)of the sugar. Finally: I may be an idiot, but 16 servings is just over 1 can. I didn't realize that until the end.

Glazed Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
I modified the recipe out of necessity: I decided to make meatloaf at the last minute and didn't have mustard powder, so I used same amount of Coarse Ground mustard (has mustard seeds in it). I also didn't have beef boullion granules, so had to 'break up' a boullion cube instead. I did go ahead and double the sauce as others suggested. THIS SAUCE IS AWESOME!!! I don't care for meatloaf particularly, but my husband loves it. The sauce made me actually decide I would have to make meatloaf more often.

Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2007
This is an awesome 'base' recipe; I made some changes out of necessity and some out of personal preference. Before even starting, I wasn't sure about the garlic salt (fresh garlic, minced, instead) or the seasoned salt (sounded kind of salty & ick, so I omitted). I didn't have lemon juice. I had cream of chicken on hand and I had a can of sliced mushrooms on hand, so I used those instead of crm of mushroom soup. I used double the amount of cheese (we like a little broccoli with our cheese :). With all that said and done, this was SO GOOD. My 10 year old loved it. I'm gonna use left over ham (cubed) and make again. BTW//I HATE mayo, but you cannot taste mayo in this.

Herb Roasted Pork

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
I used the ingredients of a recipe for 8, but used a 2 1/4 pound roast instead. I doubled the spices, rubbed it, then let it marinate in the spices for 5 hours. I made 2 batches of the sauce, both with only half the sugar, but the first without the cornstarch. I would soak the herb-crusted roast every 1/2 hour it cooked. The thickened batch was set aside, and each sliced piece of meat was dipped before being placed on the plate. AWESOME!!!!!

Cappuccino on Ice

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
I do not like coffee, unless it has lots of sugar and cream or creamer. I like Starbuck's Frappuccino's, as well as Starbuck's in store creations (the sweet ones, anyway). That said, to me, this recipe was too sweet. I suggest anyone making this the first time cut back on the SCM and gradually add more to their taste.

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2006
All I can say is WOW! Being from the South, I've had just about every BBQ sauce known. This one had a flavor that just kind of hit the tastebud spot. I imagine posters who were less than thrilled with it have a particular taste they go for in BBQ sauce (like a vinegar-y sauce or something) and this just wasn't that taste. For me, this is THE taste. Note, though, that if you use a good whiskey (like Crown), this AIN'T cheap to make, the only reason I gave 4 * instead of 5*, but perhaps that's unfair.

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
Very, very good roast. I didn't coat & brown my roast (I used eye round). I also didn't have onion soup mix (used dried onion instead) or vermouth (used white wine). I also added about a 1/2 tsp rosemary (b/c after trying the recipe for the Christmas Beef Stew, I found I LOVE rosemary with my roasts and stew).

Southern Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2006
I think this is a great base recipe, because I could tell by the ingredients list I would have to 'tweak' it a little to suit my tastes. I used chopped vidalia onion instead of garlic, just b/c that's the way I'm used to it. I also added the mustard just 1 teaspoon at at a time, b/c some reviewers described it as too mustardy, and I don't like too much mustard.

Tater Tot Casserole II

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2006
a good base recipe. Here's an idea for kicking up the recipe, to keep it from being bland: Instead of sour cream and cheese, put in a jar of (Tostito's brand) Salsa Con Queso, Medium spicy. My husband thought that made it really good. I didn't have but 26 oz of frozen tater tots, so 1 jar was plenty when mixed with 1 can cream of mushroom soup.

Eggnog I

REALLY good eggnog... and I didn't appreciate the whole "not too thick like other eggnog" thing, until I made this: Now I realize how gross store bought eggnog can be.

Chicken Danielle

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2006
I'd had this at a restaurant... and then they quit serving it :( When I decided to find a recipe to make it myself, I was so lucky to have tried this one first. OMG! It's so great and so versatile (I made with 2 cans sliced mushrooms, drained and white wine the first time b/c that's all I had and it was still awesome). Great with Garlic Green Beans

Donna's Cheesy Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2005
I don't like quiche. That said, I actually liked this quiche. I made it for my 8 year old, who likes quiche (and what a good protein meal for him), and I sampled it because it smelled better than any quiche I had tried before. I was really surprised. I sauteed the onions in a combination of butter and olive oil; left out the salt. I gave it 5 stars because any quiche I like has to be good:)

I cut soup in half, baked in too large of a dish for 10 minutes too long and it still was gross and runny. Maybe I did something (else) wrong.

Chicken Parmigiana

Great starter recipe, though I tweaked it and LOVED the outcome: Added dried basil, dried oregano, dash of garlic powder and a dash of onion powder to the bread crumbs before coating chicken breasts. OMG! Sooooo good with the extra spices.

Added chopped onions to loaf, subtracted brown sugar from topping (I did this the first time I cooked it, based on personal tastes). AWESOME!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2005
This is similar to a recipe I have, but with cream cheese, so I tried it: This recipe produced a drier, less dense version, and I couldn't taste the cream cheese at all. Anyone making this cake might try adding a small can of evaporated milk, cutting back to 5 eggs, , and substituting 1 stick (or 1/2 cup) butter flavored Crisco for one of the sticks (or 1/2 cup) butter. That's how this recipe deviated from the recipe I have (and, of course, the recipe I have doesn't have cream cheese). I won't make this one again.
