Megan's 8th birthday party!

Me and my Megs
About this Cook
I have an eight-year-old daughter whose tastes are always changing: One week, it's meat, the next week it's meat, the week after... meat! Okay, maybe "changing" isn't the right word for it, but she does keep me looking for new ways to feed her in a healthy (and possibly quick) way!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE TO BAKE!! It's been my pleasure since I was a pre-teen, and I've been getting better... I hope.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies with my father when I was a child. He still lives near Edmonton (as does the rest of my side of the family), but I'm hoping that maybe one day my daughter can bake with him as I did when I was her age. Too bad for that international border and 18-hour drive to get there...
My cooking triumphs
Hmm. I make a pretty good pie crust. Anything baked is likely to turn out well... I think making homemade pierogies without any assistance except a copy of 'The Ukranian Daughter's Cookbook' from Alberta. Pierogies are hard to find in Idaho, so making them from scratch became sort of a necessity... But they turned out pretty darned good!
My cooking tragedies
Anything meat. I do seem to be improving, but I like my meat so cooked that you can't tell it was once alive...

Best Lemonade Ever
My eight-year-old daughter made this by herself. Her review: "I love this recipe. I made it a little bit puckery and a little bit sweet." She loved it and I did too. :) Thanks for sharing!

Mom's Great Green Beans
Tasty! My daughter usually scarfs green beans cooked in soy sauce, but I wanted to change things up a bit to go with our spaghetti... And this was great! I omitted the butter and used a little garlic powder and pepper in place of garlic pepper... Oh, and I added about 1/2 tsp of brown sugar (to entice her, of course!) and it was a hit. The leftovers are very ugly but extra delicious! Thank you so much for sharing!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I
An excellent and easy stew recipe. I make minimal changes (I like parsnips, so I add three chopped in place of celery, and I add a little more broth because I like more gravy), but that's about it. This is one of those easy, homey, stick-to-your-ribs recipes. Some of the reviews tick me off: Yes, it's a "regular" stew recipe because it is, after all, STEW. And all the changes that other reviewers make? Don't say "I made this recipe, but I changed EVERYTHING about it." You aren't doing this recipe justice.. heck, you aren't doing THIS recipe at all. I'm as guilty of changing recipes to suit my tastes and pantry as much as anyone, but at least tell us that you've made the original recipe as written before doing your million-and-one changes! Thanks for sharing this tasty-as-written recipe, Buchko!
