Pud's Potato Soup

Reviewed: May 29, 2014
This soup is simple to make, cheap and good! What more could you ask for? The only changes I made were adding some dried parsley (because I'm trying to use it up!) and thickening it a little with a flour slurry. I just really wish I had some crackers on hand! Thanks for the recipe!

Best Bean Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2014
I love this! I used some different beans and only used 6 Tbs of sugar, but you could really add anything you want to this simple marinade dressing. I took it to a potluck and got asked for the recipe. Thank you!

Butternut Squash and Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2014
Oh yeah, this is the good stuff! The only things I changed was using pinto beans instead of kidney, since I like them better; and I didn't have garlic salt so used a mix of regular salt and garlic powder. The hominy kind of makes it taste like cornmeal was added, which is a good thing, in my opinion. Delicious, hearty, and the perfect consistency that you can enjoy in a bowl with cheese and sour cream, and is also thick enough to use for nachos. (Plus is also healthier than the average chili!) Thanks for the recipe!

Grandma's Cherry Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2014
I give this five stars for simplicity and taste! We've made this for a long time in my family. You can add whatever fruit you want, and we always add marshmallows too. It's sooo easy, and kids love it!

French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
I upped the spices as well, and I added cinnamon. The only problem I had was that the crust I chose to make was very rich, so the finished product ended up ultra-rich! I couldn't even eat a full serving. Next time I'll try a more modest crust....

5 Minute Microwave Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2012
This was good... for a microwave recipe. I wouldn't serve this as cornbread on its own, but it would probably be great for cornbread dressing or used as a corn spoon bread of sorts, with butter and honey. I added mine to a turkey and black bean salad, and it was good. Thanks for the idea!

Apple Squash Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2012
Holy cow, this is good! I gave it a four because I added some water to think out the consistency a bit. I also cooked everything together. I started the onions and apples in the butter, then added raw squash cubes and chicken broth, and simmered everything until the squash was tender. Yes, I took my life into my hands peeling that squash! Thanks for the delicious recipe!!!

Caramel Apple Bars II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
I made these nearly the same as written, except I used more apples and skipped mixing the caramel sauce with flour. I just heated the sauce in the microwave and poured it as is over the apples. It still turned out great, and everyone at my birthday party loved them! (We ate them with whipped cream! Yum!) Thanks for the recipe!

Baked Ziti IV

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2012
This is great! I used homemade spaghetti sauce and gluten free penne, since my dad has celiac. We all really enjoyed it and I'll definitely make it again. Thank you!

Egg Drop Soup I

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2012
This gets a 5 for ease of preparation! I have strep throat :(, and it only took me about 3 minutes to make this. Win! Didn't measure anything, used onion powder instead of dried minced, and added a splash of soy sauce and some sesame oil, since I love it. Comforting and easy to swallow when your throat feels like razor blades are being dragged across it. I would definitely add green onions if I had them. Thanks for the super quick recipe!

Creamy Mango Sorbet

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
I think this is a good recipe, and I like the technique (however it did take longer than 45 minutes to freeze up), BUT, I think one cup of sugar is waaaay too much! I used 1/4 c for three mangoes, then added the normal amounts of other stuff. I did use half and half instead of cream. I was snacking on some of the mango when I was cutting it up for the blender, and it was so good that I think I was a little disappointed by how the flavor was diluted by the cream and ice. I've realized that I prefer straight fruit sorbets (with no cream). Thanks for the idea, though!

Panhandle Grits

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2012
This is a great recipe! I used turkey bacon instead of regular, so I added a little oil to compensate. And I cooked everything together - cooked the meats with the veggies, then added tomatoes, seasonings, and grits, and let it all simmer together. I think I will definitely try canned tomatoes for the colder months! Thanks for the yummy recipe!

Algerian Carrots

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2012
Loved the flavor of this, but I felt like it was way too much oil! I actually added a small chopped pear to mine in the last step - just warmed it through with the carrots. Delicious!! Thanks for the unique recipe.

Zucchini Miso

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2012
This turned out very well. I used 2 large zucchinis and a few carrots as well, and I didn't feel like the dressing was enough, so I doubled it. Also let it sit in the dressing for awhile. I took it to a party and got asked for the recipe! Thanks! Oh yeah, I used miso soup paste, which I already had on hand. Just buy a box of miso soup mix at the asian store - it comes with several packets of miso, plus garnish.

This isn't soup. I added broth and additional seasonings, but it was still just okay.

This was delish! I made it exactly as is, except used garlic salt and added black pepper. Marinated pork chops for a few hours, and they were great! Thanks!

White Peach Sangria

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2012
Alright, peeps, this stuff is pretty awesome, although I used strawberries instead of grapes and peach schnapps instead of the peach vodka. I served it half and half with ginger ale. HOWEVER.... we ended up adding some UV Cake vodka to it, and OMG!! It was soooo delish! Definitely be careful with this one! :)

Luscious Lima Bean Soup II

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2012
Uh.... like...YUM?!! I was not expecting this to be nearly as good as it is! (sorry for doubting!) I used turkey bacon, so I didn't pre-cook it. Might add one less can of chicken broth next time so it'll be thicker. But the broth itself is wonderful! I never knew lima bean soup could be so delish! Thanks!

Chili Cumin Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
I'm sorry, but I didn't find much redeeming about this recipe. I added fresh garlic plus extra seasoning, and I still thought it was bland. Also, I checked my crock pot at about two hours, and the mixture was starting to burn. I had to add a bit of water to keep it from burning until it was actually done. (I used an instant read thermometer to check.) And finally, I don't know that stuffing and rolling the chicken breasts would be any better than just coating them with the mixture and baking. Thanks anyway....

Caesar Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2012
This is really good, but I cut back on the oil. I normally like a more vinegar-y dressing, so I knew I wouldn't like that amount of oil. However, the flavor turned out great - bet it would be a great marinade too! Thanks!
