RESOLVE, RESOLUTE, REVOLT!! Happy New Year AR Friends!

Hello AR World
As usual, I’ve procrastinated on a post.  Intention – to post New Years Day.  Resolution SMASHED!!
But really…I don’t make resolutions on New Year’s…I make them all the time.  I always tell myself I resolve to do something and I just try doing.  Some days I have a resolute determination to revolt and conquer something and some days I just resolve that I’m just plain tired or lazy.  And as I get older and wiser, my priorities change and so therefore my goals change and I just roll with it.
I think 2011 was a year of a lot of personal growth for me.  And boy did I have some growing pains/scars…but I’m the better for it.  My cooking has really relieved a lot of stress.  I mean, it’s really a process in which one can feel very accomplished in a short time and you get to make people happy and “eat your feelings” (as my son would say).
In the kitchen…I’m kicking tortilla butt right now.  I just resolved that I was going to make tortillas if it killed me!!!  If not, I was going to set fire to my kitchen!!!  And I’m pretty close to getting it to where I want.  I know, tortillas…some of you might say ‘how easy’.  But I want my mom’s tortillas and I want to make them like lightning like my Tias do.  So not just any tortilla, but he Michael Jordan of tortillas and I want to be able to make them in my sleep.
Dominos, Pizza Hut, Howies…all you pizza joints…don’t be expecting my call soon.  I got the recipe for pretty freakin’ awesome pizza dough (5 attempts later).  I’ve almost entirely eliminated fast food from our diet with the help of the hubs.  He learned to cook this last year and it’s been more than awesome.  His style is way different from mine and so that means a good variety of food.  Not to mention he’s elevated my Mexican cooking with his memories of how his mom did certain dishes that my mom never touched.  If he can just resolve not to skim the fat so much (our last batch of menudo tasted like dish water).
My one thing I definitely want to conquer in 2012 is bread.  Now you see where my tortilla and pizza dough experiments are tying me to the one RESOLUTION I’ve had for the longest time to accomplish and haven’t yet.
Ever see that movie “LIMITLESS”?  Where this guy finds a drug that allows him to use 100% of his brain?  The drug sort of takes away all of the mental blocks that prohibits us to use the rest of our brain’s capabilities.  So I’d like to be a bit more LIMITLESS and FEARLESS about life this year (about bread this year)…a bit more than last year…and grab more opportunities to enjoy life.
Hope you all get to do the same.
I’d also like to say thank you to the AR SO CAL Group for letting me into this foodie sorority of awesome women.  I’m just getting to know you ladies, but from I’ve seen so far, I’m really going to look forward to more awesomeness from you.  And to all my other AR Homies who hit me up every so often, your comments crack me up and put a smile on my face.
As always, thanks for stopping by and Provecho!!
Just for fun

Another inspiring blog, Lady! I've been a Mexican food fan since my first taco, homemade by a neighbor. I long for the street tacos I've had in Mexico, with FRESHLY made warm tortillas. That's it! you've inspired me to master corn tortillas. I can do this, yes I can! After that, it'll be perfectly seasoned shredded beef to go in them. Got the chicken wired, time to perfect the beef. You're GOOD for me. Prospero Ano Nuevo, 1st Lady. (nasty AR text window won't let me accent the 'n', nerts!)

BREAD? Now you are talking my language! Careful though, yeast is addictive! Anytime you have a block of free time let me know - we will make bread.

Calemera: If I could just find a receipie for sweet tamales like my friend's mom made...I would be in tamale heaven. Masa confounds this greek girl though.

Alas, I wish I could make awesome tortillas but mine are better than storebought and that is about it. I LOVE bread and just finished organizing my pizza dough recipes, couldn't find the ultra thin & crunchy one the other day. You are so lucky to be near B'Nana, she has answered lots of my questions!

Ahh!! I don't make resolutions--simple as that. Although, I am good at making tortillas. People are always asking me to make a dozen or two. My principal (I am retired now), but I still call him that ---is in love with my tortillas. Now bread, I am just learning to tame that beast. B'Nana has helped me here on AR -you are indeed lucky, like Cat Hill says, to live near her-She is a great resource.

I can only say that much of my cooking is Mexican "influenced". I have good intentions whenever I start a recipe but then I see changes to change it up, I divert and the recipe is never completed as the author intended. I think I have a cooking OCD of some kind.

You would shake your head over the poor excuse for tortillas sold here in NY and I have often thought I should learn to make them, but alas was never resolute enough. Now bread...I feared yeast for so many years and then I simply decided that if so many other people could make bread there was no reason I couldn't. I am happy to report I haven't bought bread in over 3 years and on the few occasions I have eaten commercial bread it tasted like cardboard. You will be turning out loaves in no time!

About Me
Born in Mexico...raised a California girl, I'm always trying to find my roots with my cooking. I have a big family with my mom as matriarch and master cook. So I have some big shoes to fill.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking food that my mom always made when we were younger. She doesn't really have any recipes, so it's a challenge. Every time she cooks, it's a unique experience since variations on ingredients are never the same. I also love Mexican food El Paso style. I would like to dabble more in Italian and Filipino dishes. My all time fav is BBQ and down home Southern comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a Mexican Family. Family gatherings center around the kitchen and dinning areas. I love having family around the kitchen cooking, sitting around the dinner table talking, laughing, joking, drinking and eating.
My cooking triumphs
Mastered flour tortillas in 2013!!!
My cooking tragedies
That I mastered flour tortillas in 2013...I think I gained 5 lbs in one week.
